Comments Thread For: The old guard of boxing networks is gone; the old guard of promoters is next

HBO, Showtime and ESPN no longer feature boxing, and promoters like Golden Boy Promotions, Top Rank and Premier Boxing Champions are struggling, says Eric Raskin.

Turkish and the promoters should realize a bi weekly boxing card weekly on a channel like USA or the new nbc sports network would be helpful to a degree.

Its going backwards to move forward but it might bring eyes to the sport.

I don't think it's going backwards moreso than it should have just never left. There is nothing like putting events up where people have easy access to view to gain new fans and viewership. My only thoughts there are if there were enough people cutting cable, that even providing easily accessible fights, that they don't even see them because they no longer have cable. I think the overall number of people cutting cable however is probably not as big as it sounds. I say, still put up fights where people can just channel surf and run into fights at night when they got nothing else going on. It can only benefit the sport.

Right now boxing has become almost exclusive to only the fans that know of it. I'll give Netflix props for putting out fights since they have one of the largest subscription counts in the world. Though outside of Netflix which does require a subscription, anything else requires its own subscription as well and unless that viewer has interest in whatever that app also provides, they won't ever see fights and lose the chance to get hooked. It's all about getting fights to the unknown viewers as easily as possible.

Boxing shot itself in the foot with their “all PPV” model. Greedy promoters drove fans away.

The average American cant name 5 current champions in this 4 belt era. Boxing will die out here in 5 years. It will turn right back into the early 2000s.

I dare any American to walk into a BWWs, Dave & Busters or any local sports bar and ask a random Joe. Can you name 5 current boxing champions ?

100% correct and common sense. Why would anyone consider paying for something they don't know. PPV cards or streaming services are not 2$ gift bags for kids.

It's been said before, but greed and short term visions keeps getting in the way.

Teo had a platform on TV for "the takeover" now that's gone and those that follow are left spending their time barking on social media for attention instead of fighting.

if Boxing were accessable and promoters cared about the fight game many people would be talking boxing i knowing who was fighting on what card without much of an effort....

Boxing has ruined Boxing it is as simple as that, greed and disrespect of the fight fans is why many no longer care or care to spend on a hype job or some other games that Promo boys lay out there. Make it accessable have good match ups and undercards and they will watch ..... Boxing has been whored out to the highest bidder and sold to the guys with no love of the sport of Boxing is what has happened.....

I just hope Jeff Bezos is going to come in and offer GBP, PBC and TR a deal because this is our last **** in 'Murica! Buffalo will never have the organic boxing crowd to survive. You can't showcase boxers from Ireland and New Zealand and think the blacks and Mexicans are going to fall for it. Not to mention the fact that you have to pay Dazn $500 annually or pay $1000 to watch their 12 Euro PPV fights every year. Sad state we are in my niccas!
