Matias looked really worn down in that 5th rd, not his usual high pace, the number that stuck out here on the tale of the tape was 33. That sounds about right usually when guy's physical peaks are behind them. He did what he usually does he just couldn't do it at such an intense pace and his chin couldn't hold up.

Yeah but that chin shot was as perfect as it gets.

Subriel's style has betrayed him in many ways. One in that it was a young man's style. At 33, Matias has crazy high mileage since his style required him to take a lot of punches before he would break his opponent will and impose his own which would cave them in.

Second. It made a lot of fighter say, I'm going to fight Matias at his own game and beat him at it. Why? Matias style is as macho as boxing can get. Hardly any defense. Lots of punches thrown. KO's produced. Many fighters think in themselves that they can defeat this because they're equally as strong and have the self belief. This was the downfall of many that fought Matias and fought him at his own game.

Enter Dalton. Honestly, I'm not sure it had much to do with Dalton and more to do with the lack of Matias being Matias at 33. He's finally been cracked. After all the abuse he let his body absorb to defeat his opponents, his body can't take it anymore. Dalton wasn't really impressive to me, just someone you could celebrate because he did decide to fight Matias fight and came out on top. Beating Matias at his own game. I respect that. Though you can't help but feel, Matias should retire at this point. Everything he had as a fighter has betrayed him. If he's got no chin, then his ability to wear down his opponents by taking their own shots in the process is over. He's got nothing left.

That Sheffield steel was just to much for Matias
Props to Smith, some great fights to be made at 140.

            Has he got no chin?

He absorbed a ridiculous amount of clean right hands from someone who can punch.

And then the closing sequence? C.unt even got up. Sure, if it carried on Smith would likely have put him on the stretcher.

But nearly everyone gets knocked out in this game.

The question mark for me is not over his chin but whether he was cheating to boost his stamina over his career.

Great win by Smith, but he won't be champ for long. I believe Lindolfo Delgado is his mandatory.

To be fair, Matias got hit by equally massive punchers in prior bouts and mostly walked through them all. I think the difference here was that Dalton's punches were actually taking an effect and wearing Matias down in the second half. This is normally where it's the opposite. Dalton broke down Matias and flattened him. He beat Matias at what he's known to do to his opponents. I still believe it just has to do with Matias taking so much punishment for years and at 33, the body just can't keep up with it anymore. Though in saying that, I'm not taking away from Dalton's performance because he gave as good as he got once Matias started landing. Total respect for him.
