Comments Thread For: A fixed position: Is Jake Paul-Anthony Joshua really on the level?

"Perhaps the matchmakers are simply operating on a higher plane than I am when it comes to understanding boxing or business. I just don?t see how the matchmaking gets Paul to where he and his team are hoping to land," writes Ryan ********.

Lets break this down - any scenario where Paul shows better ring generalship is inconceivable. So...
First 30 seconds - Joshua should be teting Paul's reflexes. He throws rangefinding jabs and connects with one
30-60 seconds - Paul is moving a lot but can't get his jab off due to reach disadvantage. Joshua lands another jab.
2nd minute - Joshua suddenly steps forward much quicker and gets a solid 1-2 in. Paul takes them but moves back.
3rd minute - Paul is moving more, Joshua is plodding a bit.
Break - both teams are animated. Team Usyk forget they have Joshua in front of them and speak to him as if he is Usyk.
2nd round - 1st minute - same as last minute of first round.
2nd minute - Paul looking a little mentally stressed now as AJ is starting to make him move more, Joshua gets his jab on target repeatedly. A thudding right has Paul's leg buckle momentarily.
3rd minute - Paul down - he barely makes it up - referee signals its all over.

That's All Folks. Loony Tunes music comes over sound system.

Anything else rather than this happening - or something similar - show's that the fix is in.

I'm sorry but no, Fake Paul doesn't have to be respected. He's a m-o-r-o-n who will do anything for money and fame, like Trump, Kardashian and the rest of them. He is a product of our remarkably decadent era. And no, i will not be watching it. But i will read the papers the next day and will be hoping to read he got clobbered and is still unconscious in the hospital.

Damn you Ryan Songalese. I have signed up to Netflix because you made it sound like this fight is remotely intriguing. It's a cancel anytime contract, so who cares? I'm betting that Moses Itauma jumps in the ring and they have a three some.

Can/will Paul make as much money if he takes a legitimate beating? I don’t think so. There’s your answer.

For sure, plus there's also the Diddy documentary on there and all the Breaking Bad spinoffs.

You can't fix a fight, so you find fighters who don't need the fight to be fixed.

Joshua has been out of the ring. He needs to go through the motions. And he knows you can't end a Netflix special inside 30 seconds. And no-one will give him credit for killing Paul. He'll be pulling his punches. No human could do anything else.

Paul knows he doesn't have to win to win. He wins for being brave enough to do this. He wins for every minute that he lasts. He'll move around, he'll try to look decent when they're not in range of each other. And when he eventually gets splattered he'll be in a rare club of guys who took a heavyweight's punch. And his standing in the sport won't be diminished at all by losing to Joshua.

Those thinking Paul must be crazy... why? Johnny Knoxville and Steve-O were risking serious injury for money years ago. Knoxville got knocked out by Butterbean for a stunt. That's Jake Paul - mad enough to do it for money and fame.

I didn't watch that rubbish and I won't be watching this either.

No I don’t believe this fight is staged or scripted. Jake Paul genuinely believes he could knock AJ out. It has happened before. Also, keep in my that AJ is a cherry-picked opponent who Jake Paul feels he can defeat. I can’t wait til Friday.

The whole "he's made a lot of money so has to be respected" thing is a very American position to take. It's an economic culture primarily, so behaving like an utter imbecile for money (which the apt quote below highlights) is more easily forgiven.

Lots of people do awful things and make money in the process. It doesn't need to be respected.

Listen if this goes past round 2 the game is done , this clown had life and death with Tommy fury FFS .
5 weeks ago Joshua had nothing for Christmas now he has virtually free money for Christmas .
and let’s not forget the facts the lad Paul was preparing for a guy some 45 ib lighter now he’s in against someone else who is possibly 60 heavier .
