Winning fighters accept these belts which gives them legitimacy
belts are like pretty women. They all cant be the best but it takes Alpha Max like Floyd TBud to turn down belts
It is historic about having a belt and being the champ. Also they are financial opportunities for young fighters or fighters without star power. I am not against titles, I don't like that some sanctioning bodies have 3 champs per weight, have dubious ranking system and favoritism by bending rules or placing fighters at a high rank.
Look at Benn, the WBC have placed him at #1, has not fought a ranked WW fighter. Like I said before, they will bend the rules and even try to clear a fighter of failing a PED test.
For many belt holders become the recognizable champ that others strive to face. It keeps that belt holders name relevant and at the top of the pack. The method of which they're distributed however and handled leaves a lot to be desired.
We know Youtubers can face each other for nothing but respect and earn millions with zero belts involved, just personality. Fighters need the belts if they got no personality so people know whose the champ and why he's at the top. It does help for casuals who appreciate a dude decked out in belts and knowing he's champ. Though I think the organizations themselves are taking advantage of the situation.
To casuals belts do matter. Me personally no, because you can be the best person in the division and not hold a belt. Or you can be a champion like Barrios and be trash.
There are champions and belt holders. Barrios, Rolly, Haney and whoever else are all belt holders. Period
The belts don't matter, yet that's what his biggest career achievements are about - collecting all the belts.
He's not cleaning out divisions, so which is it?
His biggest achievement is being a 4 division lineal champion, which has zero to do with any belts.
Only three men in the history of the sport have won lineal titles in 4 divisions: Floyd Mayweather Jr., Manny Pacquiao, and Terence Crawford. That's it.
