I'd say the elites of yesteryear are better, but the average modern boxer is better/more skilled then the average boxer of the past. Just think how information is transmitted in the past: you got letters, books, almanacs, telephones. Today we got the same and more: internet, faster modes of travel, access to a global variety of trainers and styles and ideas. You can say the modern boxer has way more distractions then older boxers, but I think superior access to information and communication makes modern boxers more skilled.
Why do people act like boxer skills today are better than the past ?

Good post.Because people are lazy & ******.
they see old footage in black & white & are too dumb to understand that lower resolution video doesn't capture the greatness of athletes of the past.
This TED talk perfectly encapsulates why modern athletes aren't that much better than athletes in the past, even with all the PEDs & "advanced training"
