I'd say the elites of yesteryear are better, but the average modern boxer is better/more skilled then the average boxer of the past. Just think how information is transmitted in the past: you got letters, books, almanacs, telephones. Today we got the same and more: internet, faster modes of travel, access to a global variety of trainers and styles and ideas. You can say the modern boxer has way more distractions then older boxers, but I think superior access to information and communication makes modern boxers more skilled.
Why do people act like boxer skills today are better than the past ?

Good post.Because people are lazy & ******.
they see old footage in black & white & are too dumb to understand that lower resolution video doesn't capture the greatness of athletes of the past.
This TED talk perfectly encapsulates why modern athletes aren't that much better than athletes in the past, even with all the PEDs & "advanced training"

On boxing skills, I’m with you halfway. Yeah, fighters today are more athletic, but saying past boxers wouldn’t survive now is disrespectful. Different eras, different rules, different training. You drop a prime legend into today’s system and they’d adapt fast. That adaptability is everything. Same reason crash games like Chicken Road work — the version explained on https://chickenroadgame-ca.com/ for Canada rewards quick reads and discipline, not just flashy moves. Old-school fighters had that discipline in spades. Skill isn’t linear, it just changes shape over time.Comment
