He couldn't pull his I'm not a middleweight bs like when he ducked ggg or I'm not a light heavy when he ducked beterviev. He had to make up a series of comical excuses. A fight with scull was instantly made though

The TS for the piece breaks down Canelo's victories in a negative way but Spence had two accidents, postponements and inactivity. Plus he had to do the weight. What is good breaking down the win of a fighter is good for the other.

I don’t think the rehydration clause was a massive factor. Even up at CW Kovalev comfortably came in under 200 lbs and he didn’t exactly look shredded. I doubt 185 was any issue for him.

He also only really had the one bad round vs Yarde, he won that fight pretty comfortably aside from the one round he got hurt. Still the 6 weeks is far from ideal though. Callum Smith got even less time to prepare I believe, he badly crashed the weight.

He was the challenger, there was no catchweight BS, he was undersized and Kovalev despite being past his prime was still a very capable fighter ass shown in his wins over Yarde and Eleider Alvarez. On top of that, Canelo won decisively, no controversial decisions or crazy scorecards.

Plant, Saunders, Smith, Cotto and Jacobs were all good wins too. I also felt he beat Lara pretty clearly- but I accept many people disagree.
There was a rehydration clause - Kovalev was only allowed to rehydrate a maximum of 10lbs and it was for the first time in his career, at 36 years old.

His greatest win...was his loss to GGG in their first fight!
