  • Let's fix Boxing In America with organizational development

Donald Trump won the election in America with the slogan "America First". To fix boxing in America we have to make it appeal to the average American again. We have to focus on rebuilding boxing in America.

    1.National Boxing Commission
    2.Easy to understand rankings
3.Local, State, Regional and National popularity growth of fighters.

I am going to touch on these three topics in my boxing commission structure. By putting the number near my talking points.

    1. Start an United American Boxing Commission. Rank boxers according to their registered state (residence / where they live) or the state where they are trained.

    2. Each state will have their own champion and rankings. 50 states will then be broken into 5 regional divisions. Each region will have a regional champion. Then there will be one National champion per division.

50 State Champions. 5 Regional Champions, 1 National Champion in each division if possible.

    Heavyweight
    Light heavyweight
    Middleweight
    Welterweight
    Lightweight
    Featherweight
    Bantamweight
    Flyweight

Each state will sanction ranked fights to determine their state champions. Fighters can only be registered to one state at one time. Ranked fighters will fight for the opportunity to fight for their state belt.

Once a fighter wins their state championship. The Commission will give the state champion two mandatories to fight. Each champion is granted a voluntary fight after fulfilling their mandatories. The mandatories for the state champion will be against ranked fighters only in their state.

Each state champion will have an opportunity to fight for their regional championship belt against the regional champion.

Their are 5 regional Champions that cover 50 states please see map.

    The regions.
    • North East
    • South East
    • Midwest
    • Southwest
    • West
The regional champion is required to have two mandatories and the regional champion can have one voluntary title defense. The regional champion mandatories will be against the state champions in thier region.

The regional champion will be granted an opportunity to fight for the national title against the national champion.

National champion will have two mandatories and one voluntary defense.

Mandatories would be against the regional champions.

    3. I feel this type of ranking structure is similar to other cultural american sport leagues and make it more relatable and understandable for Americans. This allows fighters and fans To grow with in their local city and state and boost local popularity of the fighter like like Gatti in New Jersey, Vinny Paz in the east coast, Andre Ward in Oakland, Floyd Mayweather in Vegas, Juan Diaz in Texas, Tommy Hearns in Detroit and etc.

This would be similar European football leagues how small teams can move up in the champions league.

    Example below.

    Texas
    1. State Champion
    2. Ranked fighter
    3. Ranked figher.

    Oklahoma
    1. State champion
    2. Ranked figher
    3. Ranked fighter

    New Mexico
    1. State Champion
    2. Ranked fighter
    3. Ranked Fighter

    Arizona
    1. State Champion
    2. Ranked Fighter
    3. Ranked Fighter

This would fall under southwest region.

    Regional and National Rankings

    1. National Champion
    2. South West Regional Champion
    3. North East Regional Champion
    4. South East Regional Champion
    5. Midwest Regional Champion
    6. West Coast Regional Champion

Of course certain states will be stronger than others but that is no different than most college sports which Americans are used too. And this ranking structure feels more like playoffs type of feel which Americans are used too with conferences.

What do you guys think ?

I like it, where would North and South Dakota fall? They would get bent over each time.

In the Map they will fall in the Midwest region. Of course the talent pool would be weaker compared to their state counterparts like Michigan but with the commission. Their state champion would still have a chance to fight for their regional belt. it would be on the states responsibility to grow local talent within their state to make their state more competitive. I think this type of incentive will allow some states to pull more high school and college athletes from other dominant sports like Football, Basketball, and Baseball if the state paid them to train boxing.

The popularity of the four major sports and easy to understand progression feeder system

( high school > college > Pros) is what is hurting boxing in America. If states can find ways to create an easier pipe line ( High school boxing team > college boxing team ,> then pro state rankings ) it will help boxing.

America Should just stop with the Olympic boxing all together. Mexico doesn't even care about Olympics and they have plenty of high level boxers.

In this ranking format. Each belt would hold creditability. Talent wise each fight in context would be competitive at each level. Fighters would be forced to fight the best to climb the ranking feeder systems. The states would feel the incentive to fund boxing programs to make money off their state fighters.

The Commission would rank the regional champions and state champions. Commission would have a voting committee for mandatories and rankings which would be open to the public for transparity.

Commission would also regulate referees on the regional and national level. States will regulate their state refs.

          Same thing for judges.

No matter how you slice it. Each regional champion would pose a threat to the national champion due to the Gauntlet they had to go through to get there. This would eliminate weak title holders we have now with the current system of the WBC/WBA/WBO/ IBF ..... IBO/ Ring.

The national champion would be considered the best so their would be no need for a lineal champion anymore.

If he uses the UFC model, he might. He will not attract the best talent. It will be bush league for many years until they can grown and develop their own talent.

Former senators McCain and Reid attempted this. Their bill had a national commission, ref and judge trainings, including quarterly grades. 1 sized ring, mandatory drug testing, etc....there were many more details that I believe wouldve helped not only U.S. boxing but wouldve set a precedent for other national commissions in other countries, but the crooked wbc, wba and i believe the wbo, poured millions of dollars into lobbying congressmen to vote no.

As someone who has spent a long time working in high school athletics, I just don't see this as being feasible. Its a pain to introduce a new sport in a HS and get it run properly, let alone one with the inherent dangers of boxing. Finances are slowly eating away at the HS athletics model as it currently stands and I wouldn't be surprised to see many sports more falling into the club model within the next 30 years or so.
