Floyd Mayweather vs Juan Manuel Marquez

He came back after a 21 months retirement. And he schooled then pound for pound number 2 Juan Manuel Marquez. I think it's one of Mayweather's best win

Marquez had never fought at that weight before, Floyd missed weight and still put in a cautious performance. I think I watched it twice.

Was a great performance, but JMM wasn’t a threat to Floyd at all. Didn’t have the size or style to trouble him. I think his wins over Canelo, Cotto, Pacquiao etc were much more impressive. Just my take on it.

JMM played soft, he didn't go after Floyd with any bad intentions or vicious aggression. He just stood there and patty caked with the franchise. This was a very suspect "fight." The biggest payday of JMM's career too.

JMM went after Pac with bad intentions. Here vs pitter patter Floyd, JMM played patty cakes.

It wasn't that good. They had a catch weight of 144lbs which was to help Marquez since he was still 135lbs. He was only able to get up to 142lbs at that time. Yet that didn't matter to Floyd as he didn't even make the weight. He weighted 146lbs. So you got a guy who came in bigger against an untested guy at 144lbs. Marquez had hip fat... There was zero surprise that he was going to win...

At the point of Marquez facing Pac at 147lbs, he was SHREDDED. Whatever it took to get that, but at least you know now that he was ready for that weight class. I'm not saying a 147lbs shredded Marquez would have beat Floyd either, but it would of been a hella lot more impressive.

Floyd basically did what Ryan Garcia did to Haney, except hopefully without the roids.

            JMM was way too small.

Mayweather was a 1/4 favourite going in.

I think after the 2nd Pacquiao fight. He had some solid wins over Marco Antonio Barrera, Juan Diaz, and Joel Casa Masamayor. His close fight with Pacquiao was the main reason why he was ranked higher in the ring magazine pound for pound list.

Those were all solid wins, for sure. I remember the Casamayor fight. I believe it was JMM’s first bout at 135. Although Joel was 37 at the time, he was still no slouch.

Me I thought it was garbage from its inception to the outcome.

Instead of coming back after a 2 year layoff watching all the welterweights beat up on each other, instead of fighting a welterweight, Floyd cherrypicks a lightweight.

To add insult to injury, he welches on the contracted catchweight of 144 lbs.

Who knows what he weighed fight night but he looked like a middleweight while Marquez was stuck in the mud. Marquez said it felt like a 15 lb weight advantage.

Floyd ran and boxed from a safe distance for 12 boring rounds aka masterclass.

Needless to say Marquez was the start of Floyds cherrypicking career at welterweight. Got off to a real ****.

Enough with too small excuses. Marquez best win was at welterweight against the P4P great Pac. Matterfact Mayweather would have beaten the bigger slower Marquez that whooped Pac even easier. It just comes down to styles really. The better counterpuncher won.
