Who was the more complete, tactical and fundamentally sound of the two fighters? The answer is no. She needed another fire fight.
She needed one In order to have been so much as even remotely close to being competitive against Katie Taylor; Due to the latter’s amateur pedigree.
There was no way she was defeating Taylor fighting like that. She should have been busier by throwing more punches and letting her hands go.
She had the edge in firepower but refused to use it.
Which was something that I found very mind boggling. What a very dull fight?
I had Serrano winning fight 1, Taylor winning fight 2.
I had Serrano winning in a surprisingly dull fight 3 against Taylor. I get that some feel that in order to beat a champion, that you must truly take the belt from them. But I believe in scoring a fight; the fighter with the most points wins - regardless of how poor both fighters look or how boring a fight is.
While Serrano didn't do much, Taylor did even less.
The only thing that I don't get from the fans, however, is how much they are dumping on Serrano and Taylor for not having another war. These wars take a lot out of the fighter. Sometimes in a trilogy, the third fight can't compare to the first two. While it was a disappointing fight number 3, I understand why. I can't fault the fighters. They gave us two classics.

Serrano has pretty much viewed this whole trilogy as a cash grab to make up for the years of low purses. She was barely bothered about being robbed in the first fight (hey, the check cleared) and didn’t act like she was driven to win in the last two. From the beginning, this whole third fight was unnecessary and a waste of time.

I agree with your take 100% in that I have no clue with who came up with Serrano's game plan. She's not a better boxer than Taylor. She should have come ready to brawl for 10 rounds. However, I guess the consensus in her camp was that her power wasn't translating against Taylor, and perhaps they didn't want their fighter in another war.

Why, because the unofficial scorer said so? I don't think so.
Serrano was more active and while she missed quite a bit, Taylor was inactive. Serrano landed just as many clean punches as did Taylor.
If someone wanted to bend over backwards and find a couple to give Amanda, she could MAAAAAAAAYBE edge it, but I just don’t see it. The reality is it was a terrible fight and I felt KT won the skirmishes even if Amanda was the one pressing (though not anywhere near like in the first two).
I feel a draw is the best you could do for Amanda in this rubber match. Most would say Katie won and I wouldn’t fault them. I also can’t bring myself to watch it again right now as it was……….A TERRIBLE FIGHT TO WATCH, both as a boxing fan…and especially as a Puerto Rican.

You, sir, are a contrarian. Most people think that if Katie won any of the first two bouts, it was the first. Everyone seems to think Amanda won the second. And there’s no way you can make a case for Serrano winning the third. For the first time, Taylor was the clear victor.
I saw all fights live. I don’t have a problem with the first fight’s result as it was close. I felt Amanda won the second one (landed more punches and KT got a point deduction). This right here, Katie came to play. Amanda…just…put waaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyy too much faith in what her corner was telling her. Interestingly enough, Katie’s corner was telling her to “pick it up” down the stretch.
Katie won this. It was a TERRIBLE fight to watch, but KT won.CPNUTKnockoutFreshMart

If anything of value was said in that broadcast, it was something that might explain the lack of action last night. Both fighters have been through hell together. The damage they received in those first two encounters is not apparent to the fans. Could be that they just didn’t have another war in them. Might be as simple as that. As many have noted, Serrano appears content with finally getting paid after all those years of paltry paychecks. Can’t blame her.CPNUTKnockoutFreshMart
