Comments Thread For: Three for the show: Katie Taylor edges Amanda Serrano again

I stopped watching maybe halfway through the fight. (Monica Mcnutt, Rosie Perez, Amanda Serrano.. my kryptonite). Watching the entire fight knowing the inevitable outcome was to painful.
Serrano's corner?! They let her down big time. Amanda needed to close the distance way more rapidly in the middle of the ring and connect. Instead, she waited and followed therefore negating her reach by only throwing when Taylor ran out of real estate. That's Katie territory since she has a shorter reach and prefers quick hard counter punching with a quick exit.
Anyways, hats off to all the fighters on the card.Comment

You, sir, are a contrarian. Most people think that if Katie won any of the first two bouts, it was the first. Everyone seems to think Amanda won the second. And there’s no way you can make a case for Serrano winning the third. For the first time, Taylor was the clear victor.Comment

none should've won, fight was awful but serrano was so out of distance making taylor very comfortable. in the previous two matches serrano managed to hurt katie, here, she couldn't close the distance at no point.Comment

Usually that would be a valid point. But you’re not disagreeing on just one fight. You’re basically disagreeing on all three. Not often one sees such a thing. Anyway, I don’t see how anyone could’ve given last night’s fight to Amanda. At best one can say she threw more punches — which she did. Problem is, few of them landed. Points aren’t awarded for air balls.Comment

There are those that are saying that while Serrano threw the most punches, that Taylor was landing the effective/clean punches. I disagree.
They both threw the same amount of effective punches. Serrano threw more punches. And even though she hit Air a lot, when it was all said and done, her total punches landed, outnumbered Taylor. That would be enough to win the fight in my opinion.
Taylor looked like she was in a fight. Something effective must have landed.

Fights are not scored that way. If they were, all we would need is to count the punches landed. Amanda obviously won some rounds, which is where she outlanded Katie. It was a pretty uneventful bout, with Taylor doing just a little bit more most times. As for the nick under Katie’s right eye, it happened during one of several head clashes. Not one single punch of any consequence was landed by either fighter last night.
But hey, folks are gonna write what they write to push their narrative, right?Comment

He’s awarding points on the basis of Amanda throwing 180+ more jabs than Taylor, 150 of them of which were from two miles away. Those weren’t even feints. That was like when you’re playing a video game and accidentally mashing the two punch buttons and Amanda was just punching air. She looked tense as hell.Comment

This is the kind of fight I absolutely dread on nights where everyone is watching. Casuals are going back to their homes thinking this is the “epitome” of boxing. The real ones will stick around.Comment
