Let's take a trip down memory lane, how would Floyd Mayweather Jr. have fared against these fighters had he not retired in 2007?

I wasn't much of a boxing fan in my teens so I didn't get a chance to see any of these fighters in their primes but how do you think Floyd Mayweather would have done against these other top welterweight at the time? Tapology says Mayweather retired in 2007 and then came back and fought Juan Manuel Marquez in 2009. I'm guessing that was a tuneup to shake off ring rust since Marquez was picked from the Lightweight division.

Good Lord Paul Williams was freakishly tall and lanky for 147 haha. That would have been to sight to see against Floyd Mayweather.

Cotto still would have done well because of his jab and pressure

Floyd high ring iq guarantees that parts of the fight will be at longer ranges. Cotto jab makes him competitive at range

Instead of Floyd 9-3 Cotto it’s Floyd 8-4 Cotto

      Kermit is idiot

Floyd marg expect lot of clinching and spoiling tactics. Cotto doesn’t know how to clinch and lost to marg because of it

      Shane still gets confused

Tall Paul is avoided because everyone [Shane Cotto manny] avoided him

freakishly tall southpaw that no one knows about because he wasn’t that good

Wow so he'd run through those guys still undefeated? Maybe he is the GOAT!

Quick question, was Mayweather still using his "pretty boy" moniker in 2007 or had he already morphed into "Money" Floyd?

I think Margarito poses the biggest stylistic challenge due to the high volume pressure style and Floyd's likely inability to hurt him. There was an opportunity for that fight to happen in 2006 but he went with Baldomir presumably because he wanted to remain outside of Arum's orbit.

Kermit jumps out of the ring because he was getting his ass whooped by Tall Paul

Holy crap he literally catapulted out of the ring to avoid further onslaught. Great stuff man I never seen that clip.

He did always say he stays ready so he dont have to get ready. That's a great way to look at life if you get paid to fight.

Is it fair to say Margarito-Mayweather would have looked like Corrales-Mayweather? Minus the knockdowns of course.

Margarito had elite stamina in his prime it seems but Mayweather also had elite footwork in his prime. I dont know, I just think if the going got too tough for Mayweather he'd just get on his bike and pot shot with just enough accuracy to win the rounds. We know he's not afraid to stink out the joint to keep his "0".

i always thought it was very odd retiring out of that hot division after having fought zero of the top contenders at the time
