I expect Barrios to win but as a lifelong Pacquiao fan, I'm going for 'Pac Dec Close' in the Pick 'Em!

The Thurman fight was six years ago. Are you forgetting about the fight four years ago when Yordenis Ugas beat the dog crap out of Manny, and then a couple fights later Barrios retired Ugas?
What are you talking about? 40yo Pacman dropped and beat a prime, undefeated Thurman taking both his cherry AND belt. Having said that, I agree that he looked shot in his last exhibition against the Japanese kickboxer although he still has the handspeed and footspeed to trouble Barrios in the early rounds. However, his punch resistance has definitely gone but luckily for him Barrios is a fairly tame puncher.
This is going to be a complete wash. Pacquiao is going to get destroyed.Comment

I don't see why Pac can't fight like Tank did against Barrios. One of the easiest wins I've seenComment

1. Davis wasn't 46 years old
2. That fight was at 140 pounds and Davis hit Barrios with a 10 pound rehydration clause
3. That was Barrios' first fight at the world level. He has since faced Keith Thurman, Yordenis Ugas, and Abel Ramos.
4. Davis wasn't coming off a loss and a 4 year layoffComment

I actually think it’ll end up as a draw, believe it or not. I think that Pac will win most of the early rounds, fade towards the end, but the judges don’t want him to lose. If for no other reason than nostalgia!

Oops sorry...I forgot about the Ugas fight. Anyhow, let's NOT pretend that they fought the same opponent as the Ugas Barrios retired had already absorbed 130 hard punches from Pacquiao and had his eye socket smashed by Spence.
Also, did you watch Barrios' last performance against some random nobody? He looked horrible and got dropped in a fight he arguably lost which is why I give Pacquiao a shot.Comment

I agree...Pacquiao still has the handspeed and footspeed to trouble most fighter's and Barrios is coming off a horrible performance where he touched down.
There's a REASON Pacquiao specifically picked him as opposed to Boots/Norman...he's seen ch1nks in his armour and thinks he still has enough in the tank to beat him.Comment

Davis is not 46 but he has the has historically low punch output. No time to look this up, but I am pretty sure he is bottom 10 in total punch per round in all of the sport. Amongst thousands of fighters. He gets there via efficiency.

I bet his total punch count for any 12 round fight didn't match 42yrs old Pac's output against Ugas. I reduce Pac's output by 50% and he'd be in line with Tank, so all I am saying is that could be the approach. Lower volume, high efficiency
Tank is very nimble and quick on his feet, but he often fights flat footed, and yet he still walked Barrios around to wherever he wanted. Barrios' wide stance plays into that, he can't track the smaller guys. A flat footed Pac is what a lot of people expect o be like, but I still think he will have the burst if he uses it tactically like Tank does.
Just tell me, when you watched that fight where you happy with how Barrios fought? Forget all the other stuff, were you happy that Barrios just followed him around and made no physical contact with the MUCH smaller man? No urgency no real aggression.
Outside of the fight professors like JMM + Floyd, the guys who caused Pac problems got more physical: Horn, Ugas, Agapito. I just haven't sen Barrios really get in there like that and do what necessary to put the old guy down.
*No I didn't watch the exhibition and am disregarding it. Fair enough on the rehydration stuffLast edited by LA_2_Vegas; 06-04-2025, 03:29 PM.Comment

Spot on! I agree. PAC’s reflexes are nowhere near what they used to be. Therefore he is going to be hit with punches that he does not see by the much younger Barrios.Comment

All of that goes away with an aging fighter like: Timing, speed, accuracy and hand to eye coordination.Comment
