I love Cornflake but he should have never been in the ring with Charlo. I give him credit for making his career what it's been despite no meaning wins on his resume. Every time he's fought above club-level he has been decisively beaten.
Hard to tell how Charlo looked when every punch he threw landed and every punch landed hurt his outmatched opponent. Cornflake has no power to his punches so Charlo had no fear in there.
Charlo looked very ordinary and lethargic against a bum! His name will put him in position for a big fight but 168 isn’t his best weight because he looked slow, heavy and ordinary at best so people and commentators should be honest dammmm it’s boxing, oops that’s why there lying.
I saw this as it was- an extremely rusty fighter who is coming back from serious inactivity and a ton of baggage holding him down being served up a made to order opponent who would at least make him work if not threaten him. Charlo was rusty. He is coming back from a serious ton of baggage, like International Airport at Thanksgiving level of personal baggage. Cornflake was there, working hard, but was certainly not an opponent that should beat Charlo. So all boxes checked.
I am glad Charlo is healthier than he has been. If he is not world class anymore, we shall see. But he handled this first fight. 168 has names. Not a ton of elite talent, but names. He will have opportunities, even if Plant does not seem to be it.
I enjoyed the first 2 bouts. Like what I saw out of both Hernandez and Lucero. I will happily seek them both out to watch again.
