I think Deontay was a joke but jokes can be funny and true at the same time and that was Deontay. He looked so funny in the ring until that Right hand landed and the joke was no longer funny.

Deontay's problem wasn't really his skills it was his personality and him drinking his own kool-aid that was his problem. He thought he can solve every problem with his right hand eraser. He wouldnt listen to any "legit decent " trainer or pro fighter that wasn't drinking his kool-aid. Everyone at Golden Boy, PBC and the WBC kept Deontay ego large and dumb to the point he couldn't be fix. Yes he had wasted potential but I don't consider him a bum or a bust. He achieved more then most boxers. His ego kept him form fighting for undisputed against AJ and I think he could had won that fight.

Just think about it. We could be living in a time line were Deontay was undisputed champion.

One of the most feared punchers in his prime Til Dis Day!

You can make the same case for Wilder as you could Gatti and Vinny.

Why is Gatti in but Tarver would KO Roy Jones not in the hall of fame ? You can't say drugs because there's other drug cheats in the hall of fame right now.

Would not listen to his trainer or could not do it? I say he never set up a KO with his jab, never learned defense, and fogut many C and B fighters on the decline! With his grade A power that was enough for him to win. Power is tied to the quality of opposition! Who did he KO in the top 15 when he fought them? Nobody, that's who!

Without Max Kellerman in the situation, he could hit hard, but not that hard.

Wilder was like Mike Tyson in that most of his opponents were beaten before they stepped into the ring due to fear. The difference being that prime Mike was highly skilled with great head movement and great feet, lightning fast and ko power in both hands. Guys were terrified of him for good reason.

Wilder was a human highlight reel against cans and as he kept fighting those guys and looking unstoppable, his right hand became a real threat and guys like Ortiz and Brezeale and middle tier guys fought him very sheepishly.

Fury outboxed him and then beat the snot out of him and it broke the spell. Wilder was always terrible and he was also fun to watch because you knew he could land the world ender at any time. The punch was so hard because it was thrown from the back of his heels and he snapped it. Anyone can learn to do it and it will badly hurt someone. Unfortunately it is very easy to telegraph and guys like Fury, Parker and Zhang easily saw it coming. ****ty cans were there for the paycheck.

Except Fury himself almost got knocked out in two of those fights no matter how much you want to stick to the narrative that he easily beat him. Wilder was a very dangerous fighter and most of that relied on his confidence and heart. The Fury wars ruined him but again, Fury became a changed man after that as well.

I give Wilder credit for knocking Fury down certainly. That said, Fury fought like a real idiot in the thrid fight and he walked into a few right hands. It gave us all a damn fun fight but Fury got damaged much more than needed by fighting the way that he did. Kudos for Wilder preparing as well as he did, he knew Fury was going to force him on the back foot, and Wilder had some success.

In the end though Wilder's lack of skill showed up against any good fighter he faced after that. He was just really, really bad.
