I may not blame it all on Shakur but definitely the majority of it. What would have been the point of DLS throwing punches to an opponent who is flying out of there. He was there to fight but he was there by himself. What I can say is that DLS needs to improve on cutting off the ring.

What K Davis is doing is what Jaron Ennis failed to do. Davis is only in his 15th fight and we get to see his development progress. In contrast, Ennis kept himself in the dark and still had to fight unranked guys no one has heard of even in his 25th to 30th fight.

Top Rank backed Davis early and hyped him on undercards and used pretty savvy matchmaking. Fighting faded names or guys that would be incremental development fights. I always thought TR was pretty good at that.

From what I recall Boots was a guy who fought on Showtime but he didn't have a big backing early in his career. He fought 7 times his first year as a pro and 8 times in his second year. He had already had over 20 fights by the time he first fought on ShoBox and I think his first Showtime headline was against Lipinets.

It's harder to manage a fighter's career and develop him quickly as a promotional draw and as a fighter without the backing. I'm not sure he had that early.
