I can't imagine how he got to the Olympics , he must have had tremendous " luck of the draw" throughout his amateur career. I don't think that he will go much farther than he already has , especially if he doesn't retain a much better trainer than he currently has. Like someone else mentioned , he doesn't have a superpower that can make up for his lack of size at heavyweight. His speed and power are probably better than average but not vastly superior and that's what he would need to succeed. I hate to watch Torrez fight with that hyper punch and fall in like a drunk style. It's painful to watch.
Shades of the quiet man: Jawney John Ruiz.

One more thing that does not sit right with me... and I do not know if it is legit or not. Why is he fighting 10 rounders? His next fight he has got to start going 12.

I'd replace "Torrez" with "Top Rank" as Richard's enthusiasm for the sport itself seems genuine. It certainly outshines his talent.

Yes sir , Jawn Ruiz was the original Huggy Bear ,quite affectionate , once he got a guy in a clinch he wasn't letting go until he nutted at least twice. He wasn't hyper like Torrez and I guess that is a plus but not much of one. Getting beat up and schooled by a natural middleweight was the highlight of his career full of lowlights.

He needs moves. That fight was so monotonous. "Jab. jab. Throw big left. Fall in. Get stuck. Break and repeat."

True, Guido couldn't handle it. But still... monotonous.

But I was asking this same thing while watching the fight. It hadn't occured to me in his previous fights but it seemed like an obvious question in the match v Vianello.

I root for him as a US gold champion and a seemingly cean cut guy in public. But he currently sits in the area of guys like Vianello, etc. Better than most, but not good enough to break out.

If you want to stay hw, go train with chisora, and see how he makes the most of his short and stocky attributes.

Cruiserweight is prob a stretch, but if he can get there, it's worth strong consideration. Meanwhile, def get the new trainer and add some new tools in the bat belt.
