  • Foreman was a slugger with a great chin

I have seen many his fights from both eras and I don`t get it, why is he a legend. Lyle fight for example, I just see two big sluggers throwing bombs without defense. Skill level was very poor.

Not a fan, but Foreman had a hell of a chin, I give him that. It is hard to take all this bombs, having no defense and stay healthy.

Skill wise, he was about at Kownacki`s level.

And he was one of top guys in 90`s. That says a lot about 90`s hw era.

He is a legend because boxing is a sport, ergo physical ability matters...a lot. Being bigger, being stronger, having a more powerful punch still matters.
Its not a chess match, or some weird role playing card game where if you choose the right skill to play you win. Its a sport where the primary key to making it to a certain level is physical ability.
Its like this in pretty much every sport, there are thousands of guys out there who worked their tails off in the gym, and had the 'Mamba Mentality', but weren't 6'6" with tremendous speed, so never made it as far as Kobe Bryant.
Now, dont straw man this, I am not writing that skillsets dont matter. Rather that its not just about specific skills, but skill and athleticism. So having an abundance of one, in some ways can cover up a lacking in another.

        "You don't get it."

        Olympic Gold Medalst.

Knocked out prime Ken Norton in 2 rounds, then prime Joe Frazier in 2 rounds to win the Heavyweight Championship of the world, to then come back 20 years later and win the Heavyweight championship of the world again AT 44 year old vs an undefeated Moorer.

        But "you don't get it".

Yeah I don't think you ever will.

Foreman was big, durable and had heavy hands. He had skills, I disagree with the Kownacki comparison. Often times fighters who are blessed with power are less concerned with defense (especially when they can take a shot) and more concerned putting their opponent to sleep.

Plenty of guys have power, far fewer have the ability to place that power on their opponent. It takes skill to be able to land cleanly over and again. That's what Foreman did.

Probably not, Kownacki doesn`t have n.1. world class chin, as I already stated.

Kownacki level skills in your mind and your mind only.

Kownacki couldn't compete at the Olympics in his wildest dreams let alone win a Gold medal.

Foreman has more talent and ability in one finger than Kownacki could ever dream of having.
