Wow, for me, this was more of a shock than George...I started watching fights the year before the Mancini fight..a fun, short reign and an awfully long decline...RiP

I saw him fight live once. Unfortunately he was faded and got knocked cold in one round. Great fighter in his prime though.

You were an original Ras-I. You were right there in the middle of it. I didn't like what you did to Boom Boom, but you deserved the success that you achieved!

        RIP Champ.

P.S. The pins in the Boom Boom kewpie doll may be the best theater that I ever saw in boxing.

Thanks Tatabanya . Obviously one of my all-time favorites. I remembered my youth watching him and being enamored by his eccentric behavior and the vibrant colors of his personality which matched the vibrant colors on his boxing trunks. How could you not root for him as you watched him ply his trade in the squared circle?

It was the personalities that drew me to the sport as much as the fighting and I'm not sure you could have a bigger personality as Ras-I (man what a name...Ras-I). As I get older, it is increasingly hard to watch these heroes of my youth pass on from this earth. RIP champ...you will be missed.
