Hey BirdS-hit, what is it about Virgil that you dislike? Is it his boxing skills?? Is it his demeanor in or out of the ring?? What is it? You're a troll BirdS-hit, that's all you are! You don't know boxing well enough to have a meaningful discussion about a fight or a fighter.

Why don't you bring up a flaw of his that you dislike? You won't because you're a troll. Run along little boy, run along.....

Just read that Ortiz’s plan is to fight Charlo ( if ever he comes back from hibernation ) , Fundora and only then Murtazaliev
I just can’t see the Charlo fight happening but if he were to fight Fundora and win , that would make the wait a little less anticipated for the showdown Murtazaliev imo

But to sling crap at Vergil Ortiz? A guy who never talks ****, believes he's the best in his division and just wants to prove it. If he doesn't fight Murtazaliev by the end of 2025 or any other top guy at 154, then throw all the shade you want. But give the young man a break.
Exactly, the silent killer! Now that he’s in a division that he’s comfortable in and active unlike most of your favorite fighters. Boxing fans seem to forget that Tszyu pulled out of that fade when Tszyu was undefeated and Ortiz took on Bohachuk anyway. Then said yes to Boots who ducked, then accepted the Puerto Rican Zayas, after that accepted Madrimov off the Bud fight. This dude wants all the smoke and deserves a soft touch before the elite! Oscar better make him champ soon though!!!

I thought he just had an issue with American fighters, but I think you're right. He has issues with any fighter who is Mexican or of Mexican descent. Funny thing is that I don't think Virgil speaks Spanish at all and considers himself a Texan, not a Mexican....

            his style is definitely Mexican

            Mexican-American

the American influence makes them more defensively responsible on average than purebred Mexicans

Bena has a nice dynamic high guard against straight shots at range

and a decent shoulder roll for close quarters combat

Virgil's body shots sound like freaking canons! His body attack reminds me a bit of MAB's and JCC's. His high guard reminds me of Winky Wright's and Virgil is pretty crafty, but he leads too much with his head for my liking....

Ortiz impressed me with his defense against Madrimov

Madrimov couldn’t get in one lead overhook

Yeah, his defensive skills are highly underrated in my opinion. Because of the glove burns on his face, his detractors would argue that he's a rockem sockem type fighter but he isn't.

You're correct about Madrimov not being able to land a lead overhook. I thought Madrimov was able to land 2 or 3, but after reviewing the fight, I didn't see one that actually landed.

That's his style though and has worked for him. To some degree it kind of worked against Bud, but Virgil's style is quite different than Bud's. Virgil was going after Madrimov from the first round and although he was connecting frequently, he was landing body shots that paid dividends by the 4th round.
