All I can say after the dust has settled is that Roach looked really good at 135. Strong, sharp, relaxed. I think this weight class suits him.

Of course he is. Why do you think he’s been so protected so long?

this was a “cherry pick” gone wrong

For my part, Davis has always been in the question mark zone. We didn't know how good he was because he never stepped up competition. And Roach is a 130lber moving up who couldn't beat Jamel Herring. Roach maybe made some improvements, but this is a solid demonstration of why the eye test is not infallible, and why secondary belts don't make someone a champion.

Styles do make fights though. Shakur was getting touched up by a short notice part time electrician with no power. If Padley can get inside on Shakur, why wouldn't Tank be able to? Tank has been down on the cards before getting outboxed, and he wasn't able to land the shot this time. Maybe not as complete a fighter as claimed?

And IMO it's abundantly clear he shouldn't be on the P4P list, and certainly not over Junto Nakatani.

I like Tank but he’s been massively overrated due to his marketability and KO power but his resume has left a lot to be desired and he’s already in his 30s. The fact he’s now gone life and death with solid, but not elite, guys like 130 pound Roach and 23 year old Cruz tells you everything you need to know.

There’s a reason they kept him away from Loma, Haney, and Teo and why his handlers are blocking a Shakur fight.

I have seen Roach fight and struggle with far lesser guys. I have seen twice now what happens when Tank doesn't Knock his opponent out, and that's go to close decisions on the cards as the A side in the fights. I always thought Shakur would frustrate him and outbox him over 12 rounds and nothing has changed except me being more positive of that happening. Unless SS has a glass chin he beats Tank in an 8-4 type decision.

I'm going to use this post to respond. I'm actually kind of blown away by these thread responses. They are all on point and really very well crafted.

This post makes particularly excellent points... I really feel like I'm getting to understand the situation at that weight class right now. Tank better wake up and decide if he wants to box or not.

Maybe losing that goose egg at least figuratively will give him a wake up call.

That’s how I see it going, just a little more lopsided. Tank would really have to show us a new dimension we haven’t seen to win that fight.

Another thing I have always said about Tank, and last night reaffirmed my theory, is that he seems like a fighter to potentially have a meltdown and either randomly quit or purposely lose by DQ. Him getting outboxed and flustered by Shakur in a slow and painful death could trigger it, just something to watch out for if they do fight.

I truly believe he didn’t train for this fight
He probably spent more time at the tailor for his outfit than training for Roach

If he didn't train he wouldn't have come in at the weight he did.
