Lol ignorant comment - Sports are moving to streaming - in 10 years all sports will be gone from TV. Do you think F1 is no longer popular because its now streaming? Amazong, Netlix.Apple etc are already where. NFL, WWE, MLB etc are going.

This controversy could be the best thing to happen to LRJ.

I'm not sure that in itself is a great sign really. A rich Saudi has almost completely taken over the sport to the point where the majority of major fights take place in that backwater now, and an MMA promoter who is the CEO of a promotion that 20 years ago was like 5 cards a year in Alabama and Arkansas is gonna be partnering up with him to potentially become the top promoter in the sport.

Having said that, I dont think boxing is "dying", there are always going to be plenty of people that wanna watch people punching each other in the face at a high level.

Pretty sure he'd rather have the win and the WBA lightweight title.

For decades, Boxing was one of the big three sports in the United States alongside Baseball and Horse racing.
Outside of the U.S., It was the largest professional spectator sport by far, for most of the time that those have existed.

Combat Sports fans are in awe when a televised PPV event breaks 1.5 million viewers today, but in the 1970s, Ali fights would routinely reach 1 billion!

From that perspective, Boxing has certainly shrunk in societal attention. But that's due to a vast increase in entertainment choices. Not Boxing's health.

I hate to even bother with threads that begin with erroneously assuming Boxing's demise. But all was explained when it was noticed that the thread starter was named "Fruit".

                    You sure? Very weird perspective

That was a great fight that many people will want to see a rematch.

Yes, the ref blew it and cost Roach a title. The controversy made big news that will make the rematch even bigger.

I do not think this hurt the sport as much as it did the reputation of Tank and that of a good ref that made a really bad mistake.

Roach definitely came out of this elevated.
