He is more celebrity than a athlete, he is a risk calculated prize fighter since the beginning, with him having a lot of backing compared to most fighters with the backing of the promoters and judges. You can display his whole resume which seems impressive at first, but with context, it is shown that it is manufactured to look that way by mixing quite declined high profile fighters and risky but high reward opponents. It is for a Hall Of Famer and he is quite skilled to have pulled it off, but it is quite exaggerated of how great it is.

Stipulations like catchweights and rehydration clauses were often at beginning to reduce risk, even bringing up fighters like Mayweather, Khan and Charlo. Prize fighters like Mayweather Jr himself and Gervonta Davis maneuver their careers like that as well.

His celebrity status and connections is what is allowing him to retain his spot in the P4P rankings along with him being able to ignore mandatories by the four professional boxing organizations. He has profitable fights in PPVs even without a standard great opponent to pull it off, there is a reason PBC and DAZN has been cooperating for his fights. There is a reason why fighters like JMM who were rarely in the position to be the A-side don't like how he maneuvers his career, as he himself didn't get major opportunities until he was in his early thirties nor did he apply anti-risks.

Realistically he should not had been in the P4P for years, and should had been strapped multiple times as he should had fought mandatories like Benavidez. But professional boxing benefits financially by backing him, so he isn't exactly treated like a athlete that should follow the rules of the sport, at least compared to the vast majority of the other fighters. Gervonta Davis is also treated this way, though he hasn't fought good lightweights without conditions outside of Pedraza and Frank Martin.

The guy that wrote this article must be new to boxing! First of all Canelo undisputed the super middleweight division in 11 months with a mandatory that was free for us to watch that everybody forgets! All the real boxing hardcore fans said he would NEVER fight a natural super middleweight. Especially Callum Smith who was the the man at the time, huge and undefeated, just like every other champ Canelo beat at the time! They said Saunders was too slick and Canelo would avoid him! Then Caleb Plant was the one to beat him. He went through all them undefeated fighters to claim undisputed! He then tried to challenge himself and see how badass he is and you hating ass fans wanna condemn him for it!? There’s a reason why fighters like Tank, Shakur don’t even test the waters like Canelo! Fickle ass boxing fans, let me guess though! Shakur and Tank are on your p4p list with maybe 1 fight a year compared to Canelos 2-3 and they’re fighting meaningful fights you f****** clown!

Wrong. No champion EVER wins enough in the past to fight whoever they want. A champion has to defend against the elite if they want to remain champion & Alvarez clearly doesn't want to do that. Idk why people act like Bivol just destroyed Canelo. He won the fight but it was competitive. All judges scored it 7-5. Where'd you pull 10-2 out of your ass? Even

You act as if there's other fighters deserving to be there. He's ranked around 5 or 6 on most list. It's funny p4p list is always frowned upon and it has no significance. But now it's level of importance is higher that Canelo remains on it? Who cares about the list right?
