He's huge though. He was bigger than Benevides. He'll end up at the Cruiserweight division. The announcers were talking about how his team said he has the largest hands of any light heavyweight they've ever seen. So he's not by any means a "small" light heavyweight.

Gvozdyk looked way better than Morrel. Maybe it was because of the stylistic matchup and/ Morrel's defense, or maybe Benevidez had a better strategy against Morrel and was more prepared...I'm not sure. The only thing that's clear is that Benevides dominated Morrel.

Benavidez just sealed his future without a shot at canelo on that win. Canelo will never fight him, he will cowar and avoid him while fighting the usual smaller or weight drained men

Morrell should fight someone like caleb plant who will just sit there and box with him. i would like to see that fight see how he does, if his defense is just as bad as it was last night then he can lose that one too or if his defense is better with a slower pace and he maybe just got overwhelmed by the volume and variation bena has.
Benavidez confirmed the very same thing in his post fight interview in the ring with Brian Campbell. He said he thought that David Morrell would hit harder.

Morrell just didn't settle from the get-go. I think it was nerves. He needed to be smarter and just box for the first few to find a rhythm and get a good connect rate. Don't load up on your shots looking for quick gratification. But it was just a mess. Nothing worked for him. Like someone else said on here, it looked like he had no game plan.

Plant would be a much better fit for him. But where would it take place? Does Morrell go down again and find himself struggling to make the weight now? Or does Plant move up and see if the extra weight helps with his bad stamina. Either way, i think very differently about Morrell than i did before. I thought he was better than what he showed last night. I thought he was smarter than that. I guess not. But time will tell.

You are right. Clearly Benny was the more well rounded, technical, scientific and fundamentally sound of the two fighters.

I believe Morrell loses to Canelo at 168. Ginger would love the guy with zero defense ,standing there, trading punches with him. And Morrell only has a great chin, his work rate is nowhere near elite.
Damn Wicked Damn Wicked likes this.
