  • RATE Matchroom's INDIAN boxer Nishant Dev's pro debut

Nishant Dev is a 24yo Super Welterweight who made his pro debut on Saturday night against Alton Wiggins (1-0-1) and won by 1st round TKO.

Dev was a decorated amateur who won Bronze at the 2023 World Amateurs (after losing to the eventual Gold medal winner via SD) and narrowly lost a MD to Mexico's Marco Verde in the Olympic Bronze medal match. Verde went on to claim Silver but Dev has beaten him before.

In the post-fight interview, Hearn seemed VERY bullish about Dev's chances of success and considers him a potential world champion in the making. He's currently being trained by Shakur Stevenson's ex-coach Ronald Simms so is in good hands.

Aside from Dev and Hamzah Sheeraz (Pakistani father, Indian mother), there are 5 other Indian boxer's of the same calibre.

Think he made a quite good impression in his debut against a (1-0) bit physically in his prime 28 year old.

aware Dev has a good amateur background with Olympic experience, but his shot selection was still impressive nonetheless.

Can't judge him fully yet, but he looked sharp. I will keep an eye on him for sure.

Yes he fought a game opponent (as far as pro debut's are concerned) and took him out in style with a dominant performance. Although it's still too early to tell, he seems to have the speed, power and shot selection to make it to the top in my opinion.

Agreed...he looked razor sharp and seems to possess a high boxing IQ. Although he's still got a LONG way to go it was an eye-catching debut nevertheless.

I think for the first time in forever, India might have a very good pro prospect that is 100% Indian But he needs to watch his weight because if he moves up in class to 160 or 168 he will need to protect that chin even more.

Dev is a talent but his losses were mostly vs. non Indian opponents. Why do you think that is so? Your theory is ....

He looked good. He looked like he belongs as a prospect. I didn't see any red flags but we will have to see as the level of competition improves.

I was very impressed with Nishant in his pro debut and he looked really sharp. His height is 6'1? Does he plan on fighting at 160?

He looked very strong physically and his punches did damage. Hearn will take his time with the "Indian Golden Boy."

Nishant Dev had an excellent Pro Debut! I thought Dev looked really good and was really well prepared for his debut. I thought the opponent was pretty decent too.

Dev definitely passed with flying colors and delivered imo. Hearn needs to keep Dev active and sharp in the ring. Dev seems like he's totally dedicated and a gym rat. Looking forward to watching more Dev fights!

Hearn is thrilled with Nishant Dev talent and dedication! Hearn mentioned in the interview he believes that Nishant Dev will be a World Champion and also spoke about how excited His Excellency Turki is about Dev and His Excellency called Dev to Congratulate him on his Professional victory debut!
