It was a clip of a interview with Gallegos which lasted 40 minutes, saying how he felt good not cutting down to 168 after his bout with Pacheco, his upset win against Coe and having intense training with Morrell for a 1 month in Houston.

Manuel wasn't gloating but the interviewer had pulled out images of Morrell having facial bruises, which Gallegos had said that yes he was responsible. Which implied he got the better of DM in sparring sessions. But he said nothing of knocking out Morrell like the DB's team mentioned in the press conference.

He just turned 37, the same age at the number 1 p4p fighter right now. He has low mileage with only 20 fights, and had 3 tune ups in 12 months.

Sparring is sparring so it shouldn't be applied to a pro fight and neither team should be stating what happened. But still surprised that Gallegos got the better of Morrell in sparring after his upset against Khalil Coe. Seen a clip 12-13 days ago in channel called boxing MX which can be biased towards Meños, so wasn't sure how much I should read much into it, but wasn't expecting that there was exact knockout which hasn't been denied by DM's team.



Gallegos isn't as skilled nor experienced as Benavidez, but he has a reach advantage and is a big puncher despite being a volume fighter so I can't say DB will have the same success compared to him in a sparring session instead of a pro bout where Morrell will be better prepared for whatever he needs to handle.

But I keep thinking that Benavidez will pull the win and do so more decidedly than plenty are expecting. Having pro experience against experienced stylists like Andrade, Gvozdyk and Plant plus the sparring had he gotten recently with Andre Dirrell and some unknown Cuban sparring partners to prepare in this match up.

Might be wrong though since Morrell has impressive qualities such as his athleticism and outstanding punching power plus his illusive style, but nevertheless excited for the bout and may the better fighter win.

Did you know that Morrell Jr is not an sparring fighter? What it means is they're boxers that leave everything on the gym/sparring, Morrell Jr is not one of them, he works in sparring, he doesn't go to war, this from his trainer mouth.

Bena has a high work rate, he will be accumulating rounds outworking Morrell. I dont see how morrel wins a decision throwing way less. Morrell will need a KO to win and it wont happen.

yeah i dont care too much about sparring. bena keeps saying things about him beating Bivol in sparring but if they fight its a no brainer pick for Bivol to win, who cares about sparring youre supposed to work on certain things in there not try to win or go all out every time then be at high risk of CTE


Agree that the experience against better opponents gives benavidez an edge. sure morrel has lots of knockouts but against who? he hasnt been in with the same level of fighters bena has. I dont see how morrel gets enough rounds to win a decision which then means he would need a KO and I dont see it happening.

I agree that it shouldn't be applied to the fight, sparring is sparring, is to prepare and these fighters who are pushed to their limits with training camp, performances in sparring can't completely be applied to a pro bout.

Turns out that Gallegos had dismissed the knockout rumor being true last night in another interview in BoxeoUrbanoNetwork and Boxeo MX, he also said that he wants to keep sparring confidential and not pick who wins as it will affect his integrity as a pro boxer as it would take away his opportunities to spar against top level fighters if he were to spread such rumors. Apparently Hearn is preparing a rematch against Coe in March 15 and some other of his prospect fighters like Hackett to take their licks back or bounce back like Austin Williams.

Personally, still think Benavidez will pull the win, but whatever the outcome I am excited for the fight.

Just as I expected how the fight would play out.

The thing fans keep missing about Benavidez is that his offense is his defense, his ability to close the distance. It doesn't matter what the opponent's style is. An opponent can be good on defense, but he still have to match Benavidez's more active, busy offense. If not...
