Honestly this was one of those Joshua vs Ruiz 1 moments. I know Munguia is better than this guy but I think it was combination of things that led that KO.
Not taking his opponent seriously, probably worn out physically from fighting 4 times in 1 year and that count was way too fast.

Munguía got up at 8 and yes he was stumbling but the round was almost over and I think the ref should have let him continue.
He was arguably stumbling worse in the 5th round vs Dervy and he recovered back to beat him!

And people were talking up his chin because Canelo couldn't stop him... Canelo fans don't want to admit that his vaunted power has not looked so great since the scrutiny came on after the clenbuterol.

That's why it's better to take fights with recognizable names only when you become established. High risk but high reward fights are always better than trying to guarantee a win with a low to mid-level risk / low reward. Besides, losing to a recognized name is nothing to be ashamed about, but losing to a guy you think is easier could be devastating. Ennis could be next..... who knows?

Was it Larry Merchant who called boxing " the theater of the unexpected " ? Good for the Surace guy , hopefully he will make life changing money in the rematch.

It seems like these Homecoming fights have a "Curse" on them. I'm a Cuban from down in the bayous around New Orleans, where it's foggy even in the summer . I know Voodoo when I see it. Someone or some ones has worked A ROOT against Homecoming fights. That shlt is DOOMED. Fighters , if your management proposes a Homecoming fight , fire them immediately , there's a good chance that they are under the power of the HEX , or they might be in on it for betting reasons. Six months ago I received an order for some "products" from a mysterious group of Mexicans out of Tijuana. They asked for two dried Gator heads , 1 ounce Eye of Newt , a live Cotton Mouth snake , half a pound of Frog Skins , and two sacks each of boiled Crawfish and fresh Oysters. I'm pretty sure that the Crawfish and Oysters were for the After Party. The rest of the stuff can only be for one thing. I tried to blow them off , until bad things started happening to me. My porch light stopped working , I lost my car keys , and ghosts , lots of ghosts. I ended up sending the package and having the EXORCISM done.

True Story or Not . Ask Jaime Mungia.

I get that this is a huge upset but Munguia has no (ZERO) skill, hes 100% tough guy. I felt Canelo carried him and didn't want to finish his countryman when they fought.

I missed the fight but watched a highlight video. Maybe the ref felt Munguia was too badly hurt to go on, fair enough, but he beat the count.
