Comments Thread For: Nonito Donaire, 42, confirms plans to return

ORLANDO, Florida ? Nonito Donaire took his seat in the front row of the rankings meeting at the WBA convention in Orlando, Florida, and waited patiently for his old division, the bantamweights, to come up for discussion.?

I watched him fight ringside in Houston. He knocked out Jorge Arce pretty early at The Toyota center and the heavy Filipino crowd was electric. I had no idea that Houston had such a large Filipino population. It is the greatest energy I’ve ever experienced at a live sporting event. Nonito is a great guy but he’s got nothing to prove. Hopefully he’s financially stable because his boxing legacy is secure. FBHOF

It's too bad he never got a major belt at 115. There have only been five guys to win belts in five divisions (Hearns [and that includes a pre-recognition WBO 168 belt], Leonard, De La Hoya, Mayweather Jr., and Pacquiao). Nonito got an interim strap but not a full one. Would've been cool to add his name to that list.

Seems like Crawford and Inoue are the next most likely guys to attempt the feat.

This is a horrible idea. To me he may not, quite, be an ATG because he picked up titles against quite weak opposition & was totally outclassed by Guillermo, but he is an amazing fighter, nailed on HoF. He could get badly hurt pursuing a come back.

Agree and Nicholas Walters as well.. but he is so humble and likeable. I just don't want to see this guy have long term damage so I don't one why or what his drive is here... if he's looking for a easy path to an easy opponent, that won't serve him well.

This is so sad. At age 42, Nonito Donaire has had a great career but now it’s time for him to hang up the gloves for good. He is too old and runs the risk of getting himself permanently damaged.

I've always been a fan of Donaire the fighter and the person , it looks like he's not going to be wise and will have to learn the hard way about Father Time...like the vast majority of humanity. I wish him luck though.
