  • Boots vs Ortiz is dead

Rafael is reporting that the fight is dead, and that Sampson has been given an offer for Fundora to replace Boots, but Sampson passed.

Big shocker that Boots pulled out, as usual.

Edit: Rafael says the fight fell out because instead of fighting for Ortiz 154 title as was planned, Boots wanted to drain Ortiz down to 147. But Ortiz hadnt fought at 147 in several years and cant make that weight

If true, that is a total laughter and Boots really has no business claiming he's being ducked. He's basically an all talk no fight dude who just wants to "reign" in the dead 147 division and basically admitting that he isn't confident in his ability to fight at 154. I actually want to see what Breadman's excuse for Boots pulling out is now.

Hey, maybe those who were b!tching about it being in Saudi will get their wish...it might actually happen in Vegas around 2032 at 154 when Boots and Ortiz are 35 and 34 years old.

He barely beat Chukhadzhian the second time around; no way was he getting past Ortiz. He knows it.

Let him rot away at 147 fighting C-level opponents until he's 36 and then the next David Benavidez can whip his ass. Andrade 2.0.

So lets see...according to some people Crawford "ducked" Boots and basically fled to 154 to grab a belt against a less dangerous no name Madrimov instead, but Boots isn't confident of his ability to move up and fight Ortiz for his interim and was only willing to fight him at 147 weight drained. Oooooookay.

They probably expected lifetime retirement paycheck offer. This is what happens when fake news reporters exaggerate purses way too much. Offers of $1 to $2 million is sneered at, never considering the potential of earning more when victory happens. Either way it's always the thought of losing and thought of winning is no longer a bigger motivation, which always translates to bigger money offers.
real raw real raw likes this.

Ortiz was willing to accept the same few million offer, so the only difference is that Boots was scared of losing to Ortiz while Ortiz was confident at winning. Either way Boots and his team can no longer laugh at Norman Jr rejecting his offer because he did essentially the same thing lol.

Boots probably wanted/expected 10+ mil, like how Crawford claimed he got against Madrimov and that was his borderline acceptable value for taking any risk at losing his hype facade as the "future of boxing (who hasn't done crap)"...but frankly, this refusal certainly dented his hype built on whip cream. Now I really want to read Breadman's cover story for why Boots was smart to not bite the Saudi offer and would be better off showing his skills off in Philly against maybe a Karen 3 for a trilogy no one wanted.

I assume this is less about draining Ortiz, and more about Ennis wanting to unify @147. Maybe this is also Hearn sticking it to Oscar. This situation will be framed it in whichever way will create the most engagement. WW is supposedly starting to progress with Barrios/Benn and Stanionis/Giyasov in the works. Maybe Undisputed is within the realm of possibility now. However, I think Ennis is running the risk of staying too long at 147 and draining himself into a loss. It's his choice to make.

I like Ortiz/Ennis, but Fundora is the more logical match-up because it will consolidate the WBC title. Fundora is also free right now.

So who is Boots going to fight instead?

Brian Norman Jr priced himself out.

Stanionis has a fight already, and he and Barrios are with PBC anyway.

What does that leave at 147? Conor Benn in the UK maybe?

Given Boots/Eddie was unwilling to add an extra 500k to Norman Jr. that he counter offered back, I don't see them paying enough to make PBC willing to cough up their belt that they desperately want to share in house. Even if they do agree to do cross platform, I can see them first doing the Barrios/Benn and Stanionis/Giyasov in first half of 2025, then wait until the end of the year or possibly even early 2026 to do an unification between Barrios and Stanionis first, so Boots will likely be pushed until late 2026/early 2027 at the fastest case possible.

Also, I bet PBC is going to stretch Fundora as long as possible so that they can make Spence-Fundora for one last cashout from Spence IMO so Ortiz is probably better off fighting Madrimov or something if he wins his fight against Bohachuk. Or hope that Canelo dumps Crawford and Turki drops enough coins to Crawford to do Crawford-Ortiz.

Wasn't there a rumor article a few days back talking about Benn possibly fighting Eubank at catchweight or Benn wanting Barrios or some crap? Either way it goes, I have a feeling Benn has no intent of facing Boots where he probably can make good earning continuing to fight Brit level domestic fights.

Boots can fight Lewis Crocker I guess. Sasaki who's above him in the rankings already has a fight scheduled on the Inoue undercard in December so he won't be available in February.
