there's really no one else to fight at 140 aside from maybe bradley but that's not a big enough fight.

he would have fought at 147 regardless (pbf or ssm) , cotto is just as good.

i actually think cotto MIGHT be the only 147 guy pac can beat tbh. due to some of his weaknesses and size and style.

i don't have a problem with this fight. it's not anywhere near the WTF? level of oscar-pac.

This fight makes the most fight from a top rank standpoint because of this.

With mayweather back in the game, with mosley still out there, and with welterweight stacked, this is the best way to provide fans with an exciting matchup, in a fight thats winnable for both pac and cotto, before either of them are served up to either mosley, mayweather or berto or any other WW contender. Basically the fights for pac here on out are not gimmie paydays, which is why i think they are talking retirement after this fight. Guys like mayweather and mosley are not going to be just guys who are going to stand there and take a beating, or walk in with their hands down waiting to get hit. Cotto isnt that type of guy neither, but cotto also fights under the same banner, so its a win/win for arum. Again, if i had my boring choice, i would have liked to have seen pac clear out 140 and take on the contenders there because in reality, much in the same way mayweather is critisized, Pac just kind of grabbed a titles from 135/140 but didint do anything else there. pac's retirement has nothing do with money. some crooked politicians are trying to convince him to get into politics to try to capitalize on his fame and pac is listening to them.

if he losses the election he might fight a little more.

i disagree with the careful matchmaking.

diaz was. he was a top rank fighter with a belt at a division pacquiao was moving up to. i honestly believe diaz was just a tuneup for bigger and better things at 135 for pacquiao.

however 3 things happened:

1. floyd pulled out of the oscar fight and oscar had to scramble for an opponent

2. hatton turned down oscar because he wanted a tuneup first. i think they had hatton-oscar in mind after oscar beats pacquiao in a low risk , big name , big money fight.

3. pacquiao ended up beating oscar. that threw oscar-hatton out the window and paved the way for hatton-pac to get made.



i consider it more LUCK than CLEVER MATCHMAKING (aside from diaz).

if floyd hadn't pulled out of the oscar fight , oscar-pac doesn't get made.

if hatton didn't want a tuneup with malignaggi first before oscar-hatton , oscar-pac doesn't get made.

if pacquiao had lost to delahoya (like he was suppose to) , pac-hatton doesn't get made.

i don't think arum is that CLEVER at matchmaking. a lot of perfect timing and luck involved.

remember up until end of 2006 he wasn't even with arum. muhsin muhammad was just throwing him up against whoever , to milk him. no one thought a little asian fighter from philippines who doesn't speak english well could ever be a moneymaker.
