What is Canelo's Magnum Opus? His greatest performance against a top caliber opponent.

A performance where Saul Alvarez is the clear winner over a world champion that belongs in the Hall Of Fame. An opponent whose in his physical prime but was just outskilled or outperformed.

Not a opponent that was over the hill like Shane Mosley or a Miguel Cotto.

it could be Golovkin 2, at the time of the fight GGG was ranked top 3 P4P on every ranking system... the way canelo aproached the fight was great imo, taking the center of the ring and pushing ggg back, leading the action... closed fight yes, but still great performance by both fighters..

Made multiple good points, just want to say however that was a close performance by both.

That might be Canelo at his best with the drive/dedication to win coupled with a pretty good gameplan. But the winner is debatable.

I'd go with his performance against Danny Jacobs.

Jacobs gave GGG hell before he fought Canelo & Canelo just walked in there & blanked him.

A lot of people gave Jacobs a shot because of that & because he was an athletic Black fighter.

          Made no difference.

That was 7-5 on two score cards. Canelo has never looked a level above any top fighter, always been very close.

I see that being the most cases of Canelo's bouts, when it came to top competition, he never seemed quite dominant.

Excluding perhaps his performance against Austin Trout, James Kirkland and Callum Smith. However although good wins, these fighters aren't exactly HOF caliber.

Don't know if he had a marquee fight where he makes a statement by beating a quite accomplished fighter in his prime.

Didn't Canelo get overwhelmingly outboxed in that bout? I don't think he even managed to win a round out of twelve.

It sucks that probably the GGG win is that performance because it was still a close fight and as much as we were promised with them two getting together. 3 fights and zero knockdowns is crazy. Probably the most anti climatic trilogy ever.

Canelo really needed that Barrera-Morales type rivalry with someone and when they fought, all hell broke loose, yet when the dust settles, he was the clear winner. Whether via total domination or with some knockdowns in the bank, or better yet a KO would have been awesome.

Canelo has been the face of boxing for awhile now and it's obvious megastar, but I can't say he brings the excitement to the matches that I've felt from prior stars. Whether it's the matchups he's had or how the fights have gone. He's missing something.
