At the time of the fight, ggg was still past his prime and canelo's was coming out of the drug suspension. I have asked the same question a few times, and there's no fight like that in canelo's resume. For example, Duran had Buchanan, DeJesus II, Leonard I, More and Barkley, Leonard, Benitez, Duran II, Hearns I, and Hagler, if you look into any all-time great resume a couple of fights are going to pop up, not with canelo.it could be Golovkin 2, at the time of the fight GGG was ranked top 3 P4P on every ranking system... the way canelo aproached the fight was great imo, taking the center of the ring and pushing ggg back, leading the action... closed fight yes, but still great performance by both fighters..Comment

I think you have a low expectation for the face of boxing, cotto, mosley and ggg? The three of them were past their prime when they fought, and he lost the first, and it would have been fair if the second was a draw, and he was on that Mexican beef. He has no signature win period, let me put it this way, he is a Honda and you guys think he is a Mercedes-BenzCanelo Alvarez's best wins, are still in my opinion Miguel Cotto, Shane Mosley and Gennady Golovkin 'People can choose ether one of those performances skill for skill as his best ever performance. But I would honestly rate ether victories vs Miguel Cotto or Shane Mosley as his overall best wins. Because they are individually the best fighters he has fought, who he was victorious against'.
Note:The best fighters Canelo Alvarez has fought pound for pound, were fighters that he fought mostly during his Welter Weight and Super Weight Weight stages of his career. Floyd Mayweather Junior, Shane Mosley, Miguel Cotto, Erislandy Lara. Gennady Golovkin is skill for skill the best fighter, he has fought and won against since leaving the welterweight divisions'.
To conclude: If Canelo Alvarez was to rematch Dimtri Bivol, and win the fight at 175 pounds 'Then I would also rate that potential win, alongside his victories against Miguel Cotto, Shane Mosley and Gennady Golovkin. But I would not be so quick, to place this win above those past wins. Because skill for skill, I definitively believe that Miguel Cotto and Shane Mosley pound for pound are better fighters than Dimtri Bivol.
The best fighter Canelo Alvarez has ever fought win or lose, is Floyd Mayweather Junior 'The best fighters, he has fought and won against are Miguel Cotto, Shane Mosley and Gennady Golovkin. The only potential fights, that rate anywhere near those fighters skill for skill are against Arthur Beterbiev and a rematch vs Dimtri Bivol' etc.Last edited by garfios; 11-06-2024, 04:16 PM.Comment

I'll say jacobs, ggg wasn't in his prime when they fought, now if he had fought him right after cotto, yes.
Unfortunately there is no sarcasm font. I agree with you about his performance yet, if I recall correctly, it was somehow a majority decision..
Joking aside, I would say his best wins against fighters in their "prime" would probably be GGG2, Danny Jacobs or even BJS.Comment

He didn't touch Lara, one uppercut, and almost every "body" shot was blocked, he was favored by the corrupt judges and one of them saw him win 9 rounds, you will be hard-pressed to find 4, saunders was never an elite fighter and 168 didn't suit him well.
No mistake on your part, I'd be confused if I read my post. This site really should have a sarcasm font.
Canelo is a very good fighter and has a very strong resume but he's also had nearly every benefit in his matches since around that performance against Mayweather (and likely well before). The fact that a judge scored the fight with Floyd a draw tells you that. The Bivol fight was another example.
The Lara fight was a very good win, albeit very close, I suppose you could put it up there. I rate the BJS win high because he was an undefeated, tricky fighter who knew how to get into opponents' heads and force the fight at his pace. Canelo savagely stopped him by breaking his face.
Plant was also undefeated and had skills but I don't think he presented the same puzzle that BJS did. I don't like Saunders, can't stand him actually, but I think he was an incredibly awkward fighter who would present a lot of opponents trouble.Comment

Regardless if they were past their peak or not 'Those are Canelo Alvarez's best wins. Miguel Cotto, Shane Mosley and Gennady Golovkin are? Skill for skill the best fighter's pound for pound, Alvarez has fought and won against. Overall Floyd Mayweather Junior is the best fighter he has fought win or lose'.

Shane Mosley, even the version of Mosley who Alvarez fought, was a better fighter skill for skill 'Than all of the fighters, Alvarez fought in the Middle to Super Middle Weight Division's. I have stated this many times before in the past, Canelo Alvarez as he moved up through the weight divisions? He was fighting bigger fighters in terms of mass and weight, but overall skill for skill, the best fighters he had competed against mostly were during his Welter Weight career.
Dimtri Bivol pound for pound is not a better fighter than Miguel Cotto 'Technically this very clear to me. The only reason why I would rate, a potential win's against Dimtri Bivol alongside Miguel Cotto, Shane Mosley and Gennady Golovkin. Is because Bivol may be closer to his peak form'.
Note: My perception of Canelo Alvarez's ability is that 'He is a great fighter within this era. And he has been consistently throughout his career one of best fighters pound for pound in the sport'.
But I have always been adamant, that the Middle Weight to Super Middle Weight Divisions have been way below par during Canelo Alvarez's reign 'I rate fighters such as Joe Calzaghe, Carl Froch, Chris Eubank Senior, Nigel Benn as better Middle and Super Middle Weight fighters than Canelo Alavrez overall in their careers.
To conclude: If those past Great Middle to Super Middle Weight fighters, where match against all of the fighters on Canelo Alvarez's Middle to Super Middle Weight Resume. In my opinion, they would beat most of those fighters. Most likely in a way more impressive fashion than Canelo Alvarez'.
Which suggest that Canelo Alvarez has been fortunate, that he was competing in this era. Which has been a below par era in terms of competitiveness and pure ability, compared to past Middle to Super Middle Weight boxing era's. 'I personally don't rate Canelo Alvarez very highly as a all-time great Middle to Super Middle Weight fighter, for many the reasons I have outlined here in this post'.
But I will acknowledge, that he has been the best Middle to Super Middle Weight fighter of his era 'His only real rival in that debate, is Gennady Golovkin' etc.

You didn't need to write a book to confirm canelo is a fraud, and he doesn't have a win against an elite fighter in his prime, without controversy.

Can't agree to the reasoning behind this.

If Mosley's physical attributes had significantly deteriorated at the top level. He likely would had lost to fighters like Jacobs or Plant if they belonged in the same division. It wouldn't matter if he was more skilled, if their skills can compete at the top level and they are physically at their best compared to a declining Mosley, then he shouldn't be the favorite. At least not the version Alvarez fought.
