They will always be those of us who come to boxing children of other endeavors. I came from a martial arts background. For some of us we don't so much dig the sporting aspect as much as the strategy, and aspects of professional prize fighting that show the ability to deal with real attrition and real aggression without any sort of a point system to artificially impose order.

It is for that reason I leave scoring fights to others. I will occasionally go back to look and score a fight. But even to someone as dense as I, when you looked at this fight you could see that effective aggression one the day for Beter.

Jimmy Young in my opinion is the most unappreciated heavyweight in history. The reason for this? Like Whitaker Young could fight you countering, while hanging in there and not simply back pedaling, escaping a great puncher like foreman while also tagging him effectively. I don't think Bivol accomplish this going back against Beterbiev.

Crazy fight really and one which will rarely come around again - watching the fight in its entirety your eyes tells you that Bivol deserved to win the fight. However every bit off success Beterbiev had was very effective in the sense that the punches were packed with power and were damaging to the point where Bivol could've been in control for 2mins & 50 seconds of the round but that small 10 second spell of Beterbiev's hurtful dominance were enough to steal the round.

Scoring the fight according to the 10 point must system and not the overall illusion of what the eyes saw should lead you to a very close, narrow win for Beterbiev. I scored it 115-113 in favour of Beterbiev but this is a fight we absolutely need to see again. Both fighters will take experience from what happened in this first fight into the second fight which could possibly lead to a KO. Hopefully Beterbiev wouldn't be significantly impaired by age by the time the rematch becomes around.
