Lawrence is required to earn a ranking. Any fighter should need to, when jumping a division.

The last guy to relinquish his belt(s) at the division below Heavyweight didn't have to... he came up with a guaranteed mandatory shot courtesy of the WBO's rules.

The WBC named it after some kid called Bridger who saved his little sister from a dog attack or something, so it was a nice gesture but the division is pointless. I think it they was gonna do another weight class it should of been between 175 and 200lbs because thats a big weight jump from LHW to Crusierweight so if you have to do another weight then that made the most sense. Inbetween Crusierweight and heavyweight made no sense because it's been proved Cruiserweights can make the jump to heavyweight and be successful. But I agree to many weight classes so guys can become like 3-4 weight world champions without really beating anyone of note.
