Why the hell did the WBA just give plant, a guy coming off a loss, an interim title fight against a dude I've never heard of if Berlanga was already mandatory and now Mbilli is the #1 contender?

Plant coming off a loss?? To Benavidez, former champ, interim and #1 168 contender who Canelo won't fight. Berlanga moved up in position ONLY because Morrell moved up in weight. Mbilli has not fought shlt and Mungia and Berlanga got what 7-1 underdogs get even with undefeated records.Last edited by Toprope; 10-03-2024, 12:22 AM.Comment

My guess is that he was the number one guy at 122 and the loss to Inoue didn't lower his worth that much so he was in top 3-5 to begin with, and given the rest of the guys around top 5 I guess the PBC promoted Fulton got the edge? Given the other possible choices it isn't too crazy considering business.
WBC- Robeisy then Carrington
WBA- Fulton then Carrington
IBF- the "I Beg to diFfer" ranking strikes again with number one Tomoki Kameda.
WBO- Robeisy then Carrington, with Fulton being third
And yeah, considering both fighter's last fight which neither really did well, even then right now a Fulton vs Carrington will end with Fulton UD win.Comment

Doubt Arum/Top Rank is willing to let him lose his shine unless it is against Inoue or atleast one of "their" guys, certainly not PBC/Fulton. If anything him struggling against Segawa that much was probably not what TR was expecting, and fudged their plans.Comment
