Comments Thread For: Barry McGuigan calls for Anthony Joshua to retire after Daniel Dubois knockout

Barry McGuigan doesn't think it's a good idea to see Anthony Joshua again. Not in a rematch with Daniel Dubois. Not in the ring with anyone else.

The very last sentence is exactly what I myself think.

Not everyone gives up when they lose Barry.

          Ajs options,
          Rematch.
          Fellow washed up Wilder.
Id like to see in house Hrgovic finish Aj off personally, Hrgovic starts as fast as Dubois in volume, Big Baby Miller probably beats this Aj, Aj can't take preasure.

Getting starched by Rock Head will be a very bad stain to retire on.

The same was said after the Ruiz loss.

I'd prefer him to continue knowing he can either provide a spectacular knock out or be knocked out spectacularly.

AJ has always been chinny with a useless punch resistance - the warning signs were there as early as 2015 when he got badly rocked by a left hook from Dillian whyte in round 2!

                Rocked by Dillian whyte
Badly hurt & floored by Klitschko
                wobbled by a Povetkin combination
                Dropped 4 times & KO'd by Ruiz
wobbled by Uysk in round 3 & nearly KO'd in round 12
Dropped 3 times and then completely starched by DDD

AJ really has only 2 options now - go after wilder for the big money or set up fights with the top contenders like Zhang, Parker or Bakole. There's no point running it back with Dubois again, the outcome will be exactly the same and I'm sure his promotional team/management know this.

Can you imagine what Zhang would inflict on AJ? A guy who has sparked out Joyce, wilder and dropped Hrgovic... AJ definitely gets slept in only one or two rounds from a southpaw left or a huge right hook he doesn't see coming. His chin is just way too high and his defence is non existent.

joshua has a very lazy jab and relaxes too much on defense after the shots. He pulls back hands around his pecks. It has now bitten him about 8 times total professionally. You can’t change that at this stage of the game. It’s cool he’s a smarter offensive fighter but his defense was gonna be trash against anyone with speed.

It's not giving up. Joshua has made millions and looks done. What would a rematch prove? More brain damage?
