Comments Thread For: "Bam" Rodriguez takes Nov. 9 defense versus Pedro Guevara

Unbeaten super-flyweight champion Jesse "Bam" Rodriguez "is a sensational, out-of-this-world phenomenon," Sulaiman told BoxingScene hours after it was revealed at the weekly WBC news conference that Rodriguez will defend his belt Nov. 9 in Philadelphia against WBC interim champion Pedro Guevara of Mexico.

I'll watch that card just to see those two headliners in action again. That's a solid fight too, even if his resume is so stellar it doesn't feel as good to those who aren't fans of the lighter divisions.

It will take a great performance to stop Guevara. All four of his losses were by SD or MD to Casimero, Kimura, Teraji, and Cuadras. Guevara is a rugged, crafty guy who can absorb punches, change the pace of a fight when necessary, steal rounds, and frustrate opponents. I expect Bam to pass the test but this is definitely a fight that will make him better in the long run.

Nov 9 is actually a perfect date for Bam too, because Tanaka's next fight is mid-October and the Martinez-Ioka rematch is on NYE so he could attempt to go either direction for unification afterwards without having to adjust the dates too much.

I'm surprised to hear Boots-Chuk II is gonna be in Philly. Last I heard, Chuk's team won the purse bid and I figured they'd stage it somewhere in Europe (Poland?) to give him more of a home field advantage. Sounds like Eddie Hearn ponied up more $ to stage it in Philly. He'd be foolish not to if that option was on the table.

It'll be good to see Bam back in action so soon after his last outing AND get that mando out of the way.

Good fight but I thought Cuadras beat Guevara pretty clearly. Not sure why the scores didn't reflect it.

Guevara also doesn't neglect the body, so we'll likely get to see if Bam is weak there.
