Comments Thread For: From main event to prelims: Stephen Fulton looks forward to being back

While recognizing that a comeback has to begin somewhere, Stephen Fulton is a little miffed that he is buried on the non-PPV undercard of Saturday's main event between Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and Edgar Berlanga.

He also got a career high payday by a huge factor, and lost to a guy who's a generational talent, possibly even will end up going down as as ATG. I wonder if there's some promotional issues that kept him out of the ring, or it was all Inoue related.

You might as well say he may have a full ton of excuses.

One of them being getting flashbacks every time he orders sushi at a gas station.

I think it was a mixture of multiple factors.

Even if we suppose Fulton was going to fight every 6 month under normal circumstances, first of all Inoue beat the crap out of him so that alone probably added a month or two extra month before return given the physical and psychological damage. Plus he decided to officially move up to 126 so the preparation was also probably going to be longer in between regardless. Lastly there has been multiple semi-official news/rumors that Fulton was initially going to fight in June then August but it fell through due to promotional issues, making it this late.

Without the PBC issue I'd say he was planning a return after 10 month, which sounds about right given going to a new weight class after a KO loss.

Figueroa was going after him for a rematch before and after the Inoue fight.
That's what I believe made Fulton take a long break and waited for the rematch to die down.
Even though Figueroa has moved up in weight, correct me if I'm wrong.
Fulton hated the rematch, in my opinion. He wants no more of Figueroa, yet
that's the only fight he can generate interest coming back.
