  • Comments Thread For: Bob Arum on Naoya Inoue: Christmas Eve card, U.S. return, Junto Nakatani showdown awaits

Naoya Inoue fell short of producing his routinely dynamic showings Tuesday when he successfully defended his claim as undisputed junior-featherweight champion by stopping veteran TJ Doheny in Tokyo.

    Sounds like they're setting up:
    Goodman in December in Tokyo
Akhmadaliev in April in Las Vegas
Nakatani back in Tokyo later in 2025

Then he'll probably move up to 126.

That's a pretty killer list, TBH. Not that US fans will give him credit if he makes it through that gauntlet...

He has guys like Juan Carlos Payano, TJ Doheny, Kohei Kono, and Paul Butler as his 12th-15th best wins. His legacy is secure with real boxing fans no matter how much the mainstream does or doesn't care.

Yeah all the hardcore boxing fans know Inoue has an amazing resume. I mean Inoue has 23 title fights in 28 fights, which is crazy because floyd mayweather has 25 title fight in 50 fights.

I'm calling it right now...if Inoue announces the Goodman fight in December in Japan, haters will claim he is ducking MJ and/or featherweight and/or he doesn't leave Japan.
If he fights MJ in Vegas next May, haters will claim he is too scared to go up to featherweight and fighting no names with barely 10 fights.
If he fights Nakatani in Tokyo Dome redux next summer, haters will say he's back to just staying in Japan and not build up in the USA.
If he moves up before facing Goodman/MJ /Nakatani haters will claim duck.
If he moves up to featherweight end of next year and fights Angelo Leo (a fellow Top Rank champion and easy to set up via Arum) haters will say he is scared of Espinoza or Ball or whoever else, and Filipinos will say he's still ducking Casimero.

              So true. LOL.

And after beating Goodman, MJ, Junto and Leo….

The haters will say that Inoue has to beat Tank in the U.S.

At this point its gotta be Goodman in Japan on December from all the rumors I'm hearing out here. The April 2025 match may be likely MJ, unless Inoue decides he feels like moving up in which case it will likely be Leo.

What is funny is that the guys yapping on Inoue for "ducking" MJ are also in the same party as to those claimieg Inoue ducking featherweight and fighting scrubs in 122. In other words MJ will be an opponent that is so great that Inoue ducks and flees to 126 without fighting him, or will become a scrub who has already lost to Tapales who Inoue already beat last year.

Either way unlike last time, now that Doheny is over Matchroom better be on that phone with Top Rank and reserving April already instead of awaiting Turki help.

I know MJ, he is strong, but lack the intelligence that Inuoe has.
