Devin gets a prime opportunity to redeem himself.
Hope he can put all the BS behind him and go to Australia and win in dominant fashion to get his career going again.

Both his reflexes and reaction time were all a split second slower than usual due to Ryan Garcia’s doping. Which explains those three knockdowns.
Devin Haney has always been a defensive wizard with great upper body and head movement. Prior to that bout; We hardly saw Haney get hit flush on the chin like that.
Which is the clearest sign that Ryan was cheating and on something that night.

Four times with VADA and once with the NYSAC. All I know is that something was off about Haney’s performances that night.
Not once was he able to slip any of Garcia’s head shots. Which is something that I find very unusual.
While, it’s true that Devin had been hit flush before but for the exception of Jorge Linares; We hardly ever seen him buzzed or even hurt before. Let alone getting dropped to the canvas.
However, all of that is irrelevant. The fact is he absorbed all of those shots whether they were legal or not.
We will just have to see whether or not he sustained any lasting or long term damage as a result of them. Once he returns back under the lights.Last edited by champion4ever; 08-28-2024, 01:19 PM.

Just like we can hypothesize about how much any rehydrating to a great extent before a fight affects Haneys ability. I know it's not against the law what Haney does, still does not make it right.
We know It got bad when Devin started to grow gills! Just kidding. I'll tell you champion what I tell everybody... If you make excuses for one fighter you have to make them for all fighters.
The fact is, Haney as talented as he is, his chin is suspect, the jury is still out, regardless of what happened in any particular fight. He may well prove his chin is up to par, I mean he is a young fighter I could see the possibility. I just want to see it.

Nonetheless, if Paro is even money or underdog, we betting on him to win.billeau2 likes this.

That is a straw man argument. In competition; Especially in boxing. Every athlete is supposed to be clean. They are not supposed to ingest any type of substance or supplement.
Water is hardly an ethical, moral or legal equivalent to doping and PED use. Those that use that argument are copping out.

Your camp in this argument want people to look at Haney as an "innocent." Yes, Haney is law abiding, but hardly innocent, when it comes to using any advantages, whether fair, or not. Coming in trained better = fair, Rehydrating by gross measures is not fair and violates the concept of weight divisions... and yes it is legal.
You and I agree on most points here: I used to be a fan of Haney like yourself, and still acknowledge that he has talent and I wish him, the best, as you do. Where we disagree is whether the law solely determines a person's equitable treatment, fairness, and ethical compliance. As someone who taught legal ethics college level I don't buy that argument one bit...
Haney was wronged legally, but he is not a doe eyed, ethically uncompromised young kid... His father is a master manipulator, he takes advantage of the rehydration cause, and attempts to manipulate public perception instead of either running this fight back, like Cotto, for example, did with Margarito, or accepting the legal redress he is entitled to and moving on. If Haney wants legal compensation, by all means... But accept your cash reward and move on. Or, do not seek legal redress and demand that Ryan run the fight back... Did Cotto get paid for the beating he took from Margarito?
I will also tell you this, as someone who has bad injuries from being hit by a vehicle as a pedestrian and being given a paltry settlement for basically losing my business, and having to take 3 years to actually become uncrippled: I had to accept crap legally/financially, and a good deal of it went to others... But guess what? That is it. Nobody cares anymore... I took the money, I needed to, and I got the money, I cannot even see my doctors about the injuries anymore so I could take the paltry sum and take care of my family long enough to sort of get on my feet. That is how most legal settlements for a wrong are...
My point is, Haney, because Ryan is rich, can get paid very well, compared to someone normal... His legal settlement for comparative suffering and occupational losses would dwarf someone in normal society... So he should be happy to accept his fate, take his damages and rebuild his reputation without having to pretend Ryan did not expose flaws in his game. he should also maybe reflect, since he is now a man of God, on Karma... And learn, as he gets his man strength, how to sit down on his shots more and protect his chin with skills beyond just grabbing his opponent as a defensive measure. No sir... haney is no victim. A fighter like Cotto sowed the blueprint of how to deal with a situation like this: haney could even demand legal redress in the form of a return bout.
