  • Comments Thread For: Time and patience: Josh Kelly ready for middleweight date with Liam Smith

Josh Kelly has warned Liam Smith that he's ready to beat him because he's the one who has reached his peak - not because he considers Smith in decline

Smith has beaten CEJ & Liam Williams. Josh beat Troy Williamson.
Smith went 12 with Munguia & 9 with Canelo. Josh was stopped in 6 by Avaneseyan.
Realistically, Smith is at least one level above Josh. I can't believe Josh didn't force Liam to fight at 154. He isn't a big guy but at 36 it would've hurt him to drain down to 154. Taking away weight, Josh's only hope can be that Liam gets old overnight, which can happen at 36. Otherwise, its not even going to be competitive!
Josh will move around a lot & Liam will take 3 or 4 rounds to work out his rhythm. Once he has worked him out Liam will get to work & stop Kelly by 8 or 9.

Anyone seen Smith lately? He's turtle slow. He fights like xtra G's are keeping him anchored. He's been dropped in a vat of molasses.
      Im suprised he's still fighting.

wacked-out - Do you want to bet? Because I genuinely don't see Josh Kelly winning. No way, no how. He is levels below Liam.

Liam is old and slow , he was once a very good fighter although never real top tier.He is a career light middle but with age he'd maybe struggle to drop to that these days . Against Eubank Jr , who he'd already KO'd , he hardly threw a punch and looked to have aged over night .If he has anything left , that might be enough to see off Kelly who starts fast and fades quick and at middleweight he will struggle in latter rounds even more than usual .It's one of those fights that if the better fighter Smith can produce one more big effort as he did when knocking out Jr. then there's only one winner , if he's as bad as he looked in the rematch then Josh may stop him.

Smith was the better fighter but he has alot of mileage on him. He looked like a physically broken, old man in his last fight.

I don't rate Taylor highly but I expect him to prevail in this one and I wouldn't be surprised if it's a TKO because Beefy suffers an injury.

I have a tough time seeing anything but a Smith mid to late stoppage even if he is getting old and battle worn.

That Arvanesyan loss unfortunately was an absolute belief drain on Kelly. And now at middleweight?

read what Thack said. Thats exactly how I see it too.
I kinda want the old man to win but I just see him as already out the door. Anonymous2 is right, it's probably a cherry pick. If they were both 30 Liam probably wins.
