  • Comments Thread For: 'Why is Mike Perez ranked fifth at heavyweight?' and other questions

Every month, I waste hours studying the rankings of each of the sanctioning bodies. I have been undertaking this pointless exercise for something approaching 40 years - which is testament to my hopeless and unfathomable devotion to boxing.

Are we supposed to be surprised? This is the same org who ranked Chris Lovejoy, Joe Fournier and a literal dead guy. Charr is their “Regular Champion” at HW- that says it all.

Willy Hutchinson won't be ranked by the IBF as he's fighting Buatsi for the WBO interim title in September.

As for the rest, 100% agree. All sanctioning bodies have laughable rankings but the WBA really does surpass itself every time.

Those snippets from old magazines were interesting. Back then, journalists would frequently call out the corruption between promoters and sanctioning bodies, now they pretend not to notice it because they don't want to lose access.

WBA rankings have been a joke since forever, especially their heavyweight title. And WBC has ranked guys in other divisions before so it's not new, remember Amir Khan being ranked #1 at 147 when he was still at 140?

Law suits go a long way when posting rankings.

When is Charr going to fight for his WBA "regular" belt again ? Its almost 2 years inactive.

The point of these world rankings is to allow their champions to say "What do you mean I haven't fought anybody?? I beat the no.1 and no.3 guys in my last 2 fights!

The Ring is the best rankings - still not perfect but way better than the political garbage ones

While I don't expect all of the rankings/bodies to agree... there should be some kind of consistency to it.
But a #5 ranking for Mike Perez, when he hasn't even fought in nearly 3 years? That's kinda wacko.

The same people that register a complaint will bash the lineal... Boxing fans shoot themselves in the foot at an alarming rate. So let me just spell it out: "That is what happens when you give your power away to "sanctioned" organizations." And twenty years from now? Some troll on a site like this, some idiot like Daggum will decry how "Well Charr was ranked #1 from the _____ organization." See how this works?
