I was thinking about Derek Chisora having 2 fights left and decided his 50th being against Charr for the WBA regular would be a good way to leave on a high (obviously then incinerate the belt). I was looking at the rankings for an eliminator and when I saw Perez I was like what the hell is doing there. Unreal organisation
This is why boxing fans embrace the Saudis coming in (sportswashing be damned). The "governance" of the sport by the "sanctioning bodies" is completely corrupted, without integrity, and absolutely broken. The WBA has had very recent allegations of taking bribes for ratings in a couple of different lawsuits in the US. I don't doubt that for a minute. The IBF already had their president do time for taking bribes for ratings. Jose Sulaiman was a complete puppet of Don King. The WBC ratings are probably the best of the current sanctioning bodies but they only selectively apply their rules and allow certain champions to ignore their mandatories (Canelo, Wilder). So if the sport is ever going to get back to being a major one on the level of the NFL, NBA, etc., the sanctioning bodies have to go and the TBRB ratings need to be the standard for the entire sport.

Yep.
The sanctioning bodies are embedded too deep like ticks, it's practically impossible to extract them.
Not even His Excellency Keeper of The Two Holy Mosques PBUH Turkey with all those petro-billions can make them go away, even if he wanted to (which I doubt).
I love boxing like everyone on this site; but let’s face it, the sport is a joke. It’s hopelessly corrupt, lacks meaningful regulation, and the scoring system is completely unreliable. And it doesn’t end there. These rankings are supposed to be a surprise? (BTW, Mike Perez is a great guy.)
Great post and spot on.
Regarding Perez, he has a heck of a story. Held for random by the Cartels, moved to Ireland and refers to himself as "The Rebel" in homage to Cork County. Always came across as a humble guy. I will never forget his fight against Abdusalomov. I think he was the underdog on that one and it was incredibly violent. We all know what happened to Mago and I'm not sure Mike ever really emotionally recovered from that fight. He didn't seem himself against Jennings or Takam and I think Povetkin was juiced to the gills in their fight in Moscow.

Thank you, brother. Mike and I have been Facebook friends for years. We interact frequently. Can’t say I know him well, of course; but from what I’ve seen and know, he’s a solid guy. Dude is ferocious inside the ring, but very loving and tender to his kids and everyone he cares for. I followed the aftermath of the Mago fight closely, and for a long time. Mike and I made contact sometime shortly after that incident. I agree; I don’t think he was ever the same after Mago. He’s just too caring a human being not to be affected to the core. It makes me very happy to see that Mago has made an almost miraculous improvement. God bless them and their families.

It should be said that fighters should not be blamed for taking advantage of opportunities that come their way... as much as I do not like the alphabet organizations I would never blame a fighter for seeking a belt.

Without a doubt. As a fan I might complain about this or that, but I’ll never knock a fighter’s right to make as much money as possible. This applies to anyone — Floyd, Canelo, whomever. Dudes work within the system they’ve been given, and sometimes they carve a new path for themselves. Don’t hate the player, hate the game.
