  • Comments Thread For: Oscar De La Hoya praises Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s skills, heart, power and business savvy

The mutual dislike between two of the best fighters of the last generation -- Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Oscar De La Hoya -- not only existed ahead of their 2007 super fight but continued on well afterward.

On which one he made 50 statements, I read between the lines and a lot of it is typically Oscar compliments followed by a under the table back hander, you can tell the grudge he carries with Floyd its hiding in everything he says regarding Floyd, but to say he was shot with Floyd and full of injuries not able to throw punches what does that say about the 20lb lighter version with Manny a year and a half later, I think the biggest truths are he fought everyone and Floyd beats Manny at any time.

My take is Oscar holds a grudge against both Floyd and Manny because they both outshined him and it was a time when Oscar didn't take kindly to being outshined, in my view Oscar was a great fighter aggressive boxer puncher that fought all the top guys, I think May and Pac got him at the right time under conditions that favoured them.

Wonder how Mayweather is gonna take this. Knowing their history of constantly hating on each other, somebody definitely gonna bring this up in an interview for sure. Some of it did come off as a bit back-handed, but for the most part, DLH gave him his flowers. Being as self-centered as Mayweather is most of time, wonder if Mayweather will give any semblance of real credit in return.

It didn’t dawn on me until after the Cotto fight, Floyds greatness. When he signed the Showtime contract I think the general public realized what they were seeing, an ATg. Oscar can hold his head high knowing that he did what no fighter has ever done versus Floyd and that is winning on 1 judges scorecard.

This right here, “If I was one year younger and had Senior in my corner, I would knock him [Junior] out,” De La Hoya said.”.

If I had taken up boxing when I was much younger, I’m pretty sure I would have won title in 4 weight classes.

I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised to hear Oscar heaped that kind of praise on the Mayweather family in general.

Including: The father, Floyd Mayweather, Sr whom he has claimed was his best trainer ever and to Floyd “Money” Mayweather, Jr in particular.

Given their personal history of friction and tension. Moreover and not to mention a very rocky and strained relationship between the two.

Oscar is now displaying a sign and level of emotional maturity, depth, growth and development in this video. I couldn’t have been more proud of him.

He couldn’t walk around carrying that type of grudge against Floyd, Mayweather, Jr forever. I am just so happy that he has finally decided to let it go.

Indeed Oscar wasn't in his prime when he fought FMJ but he fought FMJ at 154 which was an advantage, plus the rehydration. Floyd was an extraordinary fighter but he wasn't that invincible, as Castillo and Maidana showed it. Floyd was a master of timing and a very savvy businessman. We all know that FMJ didn't fight prime Pac, he didn't fight Margarito, he didn't fight Tszyu or P.W.

Oscar gets far more respect than Floyd when I comes to fighting the best at their best.

Floyd Sr. thought Oscar beat Floyd Jr
