Yes, before the fight everybody was talking about a mismatch and how Pacman should not be in the same ring as Oscar, that the weight jump was too much blah blah blah. In the end it was a mismatch but not the way everybody thought about it before the event.I remember people here and in the media saying how irresponsible it was for Arum to put Pacquaio in the ring with Oscar and how DLH could damage Pac’s career.
Oscar was a zombie on fight night and had to have in IV after the weigh in. You could see the marks on his arm during the pre fight instructions. People said Arum was cashing out Pac but he ended up retiring Oscar instead.Comment

Maidana 1 was Tony Weeks and in Maidana 2 it was his Sidekick Kenny Bayless to the rescue.Comment

It was only thought of to the weighin, anybody that knows anything about boxing should have known Oscar was wrecked before a punch was thrown, coming in lighter than Manny was for Oscar deadman walking, he was nearly 20lbs heavier fightnight against Floyd, that's a massive difference.Comment

manny was just at 130, had just went to 135 for a single fight and this fight was under a year since he was at 130. then DLH hadnt made 147 in 7 years. nobody knew what to expect, manny jumping 3 classes in a year or DLH not draining to 147 in 7 years what would happen. it was basically a freak show fight, like today if crawford fought a light heavy at 168 basically. or even canelo at 160. and you got a freak show result, a comple domination of skeleton DLH

Thing is Manny was around 144 fightnight since 130 and that's the little loop hole many don't see, Manny was 147 against Oscar so in reality he only went up 3 pounds, full power with all his speed, on the other hand Oscar was at MW then looked like sht against Forbes at 150 which Roach said he didn't make they bumped the scale and then he went down further in weight and just crashed, on face value it was little Manny up against monster Oscar but they real weights of what they were and what they come from blows that away and the fight reflected it, no slur on Manny he did what he was supposed to do it was Oscar that calculated wrong and it retired him.

thinking back i remember de la hoya bouncing on his feet before the fight telling people hes not felt this light and bouncy for years, i feel light on my feet, yeah rite, more like light headed & then i think freddy roach saw the IV marks on his arms pre fight & said in his mind gleefully yeah we have got him, thought that was a bit crass of him, thats not how u should win big fightsComment

This will sound like sour g****s excuses to some, but its the plain truth. ODLH was still a bigger star than Pacquiao so he had no good reason to compromise his fight readiness by fighting at WW, much less coming in at 145lbs. I recall being angry that De La Hoya even accepted the fight, but I was absolutely mortified watching the shell of De La Hoya lose so pathetically to a natural featherweight.Comment

That's not my recollection at all. Few hardcore fans not from the Phillipines thought Pac would win, much less by KO.
