  • Comments Thread For: Vergil Ortiz Jr. and Jaron Ennis arriving at opposite ends of the opportunity spectrum

They were born nine months apart, they turned pro three months apart, and they climbed the ranks simultaneously such that, as the 2010s gave way to the 2020s, these were indisputably the two most promising prospects in the welterweight division.

The 2 guys that Crawford ducked at 147. And I know that there's talk about Ortiz and Crawford at 154, but I bet Crawford will find a way to get out of that one as well...

I can’t believe I actually read all of that garbage from this guy, Ortiz lost and he is making it seem like Ortiz other than a few slips to the canvas won that fight

Mainstream Media biased garbage for the money man and to keep up the image of a fighter who was a weight bully and lost his first real fight against someone more his size

Not fighting doesn’t mean he ducked them.

Many think Ortiz lost and that He shouldn’t get a title fight as a reward. He should rematch Bohachuk.

But now? Bupkis. Crawford vacated the premises, leaving behind Boots — the clear No. 1 in the weight class despite not having proven a whole hell of a lot — Eimantis Stanionis, Mario Barrios, and … that’s about it for welterweights who could pull in any kind of audience headlining a televised card in the U.S.
You forgot to mention Brian Norman....the guy who actually fought on network TV (ESPN) three months ago, and who's been upgraded to WBO titlist. Norman arguably has the best victory of the 4 titlists, and he's the youngest.

May not be popular to say but Vergil Ortiz has Oscar and he's just a better promoter then Eddie Hearn.

I don’t know about him ducking Vergil Ortiz because he had been sidelined for the better part of two years. However, it’s a known fact that Bud ducked Boots.

Even after his rematch clause with Errol Spence had expired and Ennis had become his IBF mandatory challenger.

That was the one fight that all boxing fans wanted too see but for whatever reason Crawford just simply refused to fight him.

He even went so far as to acknowledge that he was never fighting Jaron Ennis. Perhaps it’s due that he is both unproven and untested or he just doesn’t bring enough money to the table.

If it’s the latter then that could be easily arranged if Turki Alalshikh wants to see the fight and is willing to give Bud the type of money he needs in order to make that fight happen.

I think you have got that backwards. Boots and Ortiz ducked Bud at 147. Crawford offered two fights to Boots and he rejected it. Ortiz never seemed interested in challenging for a title or maybe Oscar did not think he was ready. Either way, Crawford never ducked anyone that I am aware of.
