  • Comments Thread For: Is Edgar Berlanga really ready to match wits with Canelo Alvarez?

If Edgar Berlanga is serious about matching wits with Saul "Canelo" Alvarez in the ring Sept. 14 at T-Mobile Arena in Los Angeles, he may be in even more trouble than anyone thought.

So what I gather from this article is that Berlanga has better Ring IQ than Mayweather, GGG, Dmitry Bivol, Miguel Cotto, Jermell Charlo, Erislandy Lara and Caleb Plant. And Canelo! Damn,

I am not even sure he is the smartest fighter in Brooklyn. LOL.

He's likely as ready as he'll ever be.

Is Berlanga going to tell a joke? Show me a wit.

              That presser was comedy gold.
I don't know how much of the animosity we saw between Canelo and Berlanga was contrived and staged, but it didn't matter.
              I was entertained anyway.
The best part was, of course, Berlanga asserting that his superior ring IQ will carry him to victory. That was enough to get a rise out of Canelo and it kinda looked like he didn't know whether to laugh outright or parry with some comebacks. He chose the comebacks. He's got great delivery for a boxer/comedian, too. Very droll.

i think berlangas 1st round knockout streak was the worst thing for his career as his ego is so blown up from that. Pride comes before the fall.

                  I've often thought the same.
Look at Orlando Salido. He lost 5 of his first 12 fights, and 4 of those losses were by KO.
And yet, he managed to reinvent himself as a fighter into a world champ several times over.
That must take a lot of mental toughness and obviously learning from adversity.
Berlanga is about to face his first real test, but I suspect he's been conditioned to have unrealistic expectations.

He isnt ready for Canelo in any way. People were calling Crawford/Madrimov a mismatch going in but this is an actual genuine mismatch. Berlanga isnt going to see the 8th round imho.
