Well... That is boxing isn't it lol. We could: start another alphabet group with yet another title. Have tourneys that eliminate fighters round robin. We could have fans NOT purchasing fights that suck... personally I do not know if I would be interested enough in Berlanga to pirate the fight... much less purchase it as a PPV.

Canelo is a great champion and perhaps feels like the sport owes him something. And BTW nobody is stopping other fighters from challenging the perceived better fighter. At times like this I give my speech about the lineal guaranteed to cure insomnia! But the gist of which is: Fans hold the power if they use it. Using it means declaring that the champion is the guy who beats the best fighter out there in his division ( a slight alteration from the de facto lineal who would technically be the heavyweight champ... but true none-the-less). Forget all these alphabet soup cans and declare Someone other than Canelo the champ... Unless he is willing to fight the best out there.

They say/said the same thing about Mayweather, Jones... Most fighters actually. Benavidez does not have the skills that Canelo has... He could almost fall into such a category.

Who could Canelo have fought in the recent past who was favored to beat him? I mean he fought Bivol who was an underdog (400-) meaning Vegas figured that it would take Dimitrious 4 times to have beaten the Messican Ginger... And it turned out that Bivol was bigger, stronger and able...

It seems to me that your being a little tough on Canelo. Mayweather managed his opposition much more carefully it seems to me.

If we look at the Bivol fight and wonder what Vegas was seeing... They were probably seeing something closer to Benny. Benny is real good and all, but he makes up for a lot of mistakes with sheer blunt force. Kind of like Margarito.

Would Benny gas? Could he take Canelo's punch? The Bivol fight showed us Canelo is very human, but Benny is no Bivol. Hence I am inclined to say in a perfect world where judges were fair, I would probably bet against the casino and take Saul in this one with decent odds.

It's quite easy to reason this out, really. You talk about Canelo's safety as a reason for not fighting Benavidez, yet you believe he would beat him. And, Canelo is still fighting...anyone who is not named David Benavidez. ALL fights are potentially dangerous. Bottom line, he won't fight Benavidez because he doesn't believe he can win. It's his ego that can't stand another loss, not fear for his safety.

I have to laugh, what you're suggesting is utopian. And no, that is not boxing. This type of fighters like canelo, tank and you can throw in Mayweather are a new phenomenon in the sport of boxing. They find a way, with the help of the alphabet soups organizations to make money with the least risk. And ginger has take this to a new heights, his fans are the most ****** people that I have encountered excusing every $h1t he has done and the ones he will be doing. For as long I can remember it was always an A side, Marciano, he did ducked Nino Valdes, Robinson, Ali, Leonard, DelaHoya, Pacquio, look at their resume and you will find a few elite fighters in their record, having been beaten by some of them. Now check Mayweather, canelo and Tank and tell me what you see. Then again why do the boxers don't sue the alphabet soups? As a fan we have the power not to buy, that's all and is a lot. The media can denounce it, but they would lose their perks, so they're corrupt as the organization and the fighters that are using those same corrupt alphabet soups as a shield. I'm not watching that farce, not even for free.

No, he did managed his opposition but not like canelo. And no again, benavidez doesn't fall into that category of ryder, yildrim, smith, fielding, joseito lopez, khan and the other smith. He, like the other kid Morrell Jr are a real threat to him, and should have fought those two or vacate the belts and keep fighting exhibitions, after all he is getting pay no matter what.

I used to think he'd steam roll him since canelos declining

but benavidez power looked pretty average at 175

I think Benavidez wins...just not as easy as a lot are making it...David has a tendency to reach forward with that jab, and hang his chin out. Canelo will time that, slip it, and counter. I can see a flash knockdown there, but Benavidez will win the war.
