Either way, it's sad that the WBC and WBA actually had good mandatory challengers in Benavidez and Morrell but decided to bait them to 175 instead of actually making Canelo fight them. The IBF is actually enforcing its mandatory, which is good, but Scull is a bogus challenger so they suck too.

The whole situation just sucks across the board. Scull vs Shiskin is a lame title fight, but the champ isn't taking on legitimate challengers anyway.
    Spot on!

Good on them for being somewhat consistent with their rules but at the same time Canelo fighting Scull would’ve drawn ire from people regardless. If you’re stuck between those two choices, guess anybody would’ve picked Berlanga cause that at least has a probability of being somewhat financially successful.

Regardless, one thing I have yet to see mention in this thread is how the IBF, not only downgraded Canelo from undisputed to unified, but effectively killed the Crawford/Canelo dream match to anyone who would’ve wanted to see it.

Crawford has said multiple times that, besides the payday, the unprecedented achievement of being the first boxer (male or female) in history to be three weight undisputed champion was what was drawing him to Canelo.

I doubt Crawford would stick around at 168 (at age 37-38) fighting Benavidez (if he can even make the weight by then) and Morrell.

Crawford fighting Morrell or Benavidez would look like
somebody playing “Shadow of the Colossus” in real life.

Canelo will never have the respect that Julio Cesar had because at least Julio fought the top fighters

Fair play to the IBF. This is exactly what boxing needs. Ginger has made a mockery of the sport with both his cowardice and unprofessionalism. He is also one of the main reasons why boxing is no longer a main****** sport.

He has brought great shame, dishonor and disrepute not only to himself but to the entire sport of boxing itself. With his cherry picking ways in avoiding and ducking the stiffest challenges out there in and around his weight division.
You’re not wrong. I hate bringing up others in a Canelo thread. But between him and Mayweather (and I’m a die hard Floyd fan), these two guys alone have changed the game a lot. The “0” thing is so overhyped now. I remember just a bit before that era, the Tito’s and Vargas’ and Mosley’s and De La Hoya primes, those guys were taking on everybody. And I could’ve cared less what their record was. They all fought each other and then some. As someone that loved the more fearless eras like that, even I find myself in certain cases writing fighters off “somewhat” when they have a couple losses. And it’s ridiculous. I notice it and then overlook my own ******ity. But back to the belt hostage, fighting guys that no one wants to see…… I just feel the two of them have unintentionally changed the game because it worked for THEM, but it’s terrible for the sport long term

He's universally ranked in the top 3 by independent organizations (ESPN, TBRB, The Ring, etc) and he's the reigning WBA champion. Fundora and Tszyu are the only two guys ranked ahead of him at 154 and both guys already ducked Crawford. Tszyu ducked him to fight Fundora in the first place, and Fundora ducked him take the Spence fight.

in order to get a #1 or a #2 ranking in the IBF, 2 fighters in the top 10 must fight for the spot. Most of the big-shot fighters will not fight a #1 or #2 eliminator, so thats why the slots typically get filled by the winner of a #4 vs #7 fight, or something like that. You cannot be magically "appointed" to a #1 or #2 spot, you gotta fight for it.

it wouldnt have mattered. Just like when GGG was Canelos mando, he didnt want to fight him at that time so he vacated the title.......

right, because the sanction fee for 2 nobodys will pay soooooooo much more than the sanction fee for a Canelo fight......... LOL

I'm guessing you didnt really think this post through before posting......

Zoo didnt duck Bud, because Bud was still legally jammed up waiting on the Spence situation to play out. Bud couldnt have taken the fight no matter what........
