Trying to degrade Cotto like the TS is doing on the back of the Margo loss is ******ed.

The mans a quality fighter. As a newbie to this board it seems it's mutually exclusive to like one fighter and still rate another/rival fighter.
Degrade Cotto??? how do you figure im degrading him by stating this???

Not saying that he has faced better opposition than vargas.. cos its obviously that vargas > cotto in that department..

but hes on the right path to acomplish more than him...

we can start by saying hes a 2 div. champ ..vargas is not.

not because he is or was better than vargas.. but due to how their careers were developed...

he now has a chance to take the #1 spot in boxing if he beats pac... and if thats the case...

its a wrap!!! he def accomplished more!
I think this fight is gonna make or break Cotto....maybe not so much as a fighter but as far as what type of fighter we will be remembered as....a win puts him on top...a loss...puts him in the Vargas realm for sure....

I think he's better than Vargas was...but there probably are similarities between the two. If what you're getting at is Cotto is shot at age 28, then I agree with you. I think he's shot. He was pretty lucky to get the W against Clottey. He just doesn't look the same. He'll fight hard against Pacquiao and probably even have some good moments, but I'd be really surprised if he wins. Think De la Hoya-Vargas (with Pacquiao playing De la Hoya and Cotto playing Vargas).

I guess the coulda woulda shoulda bit made it sound that way.

I think he's accomplished enough to be considered above Vargas who I liked as a fighter a lot. Don't think he'll burn out the same.

I just think we expect too much from the modern fighters and it seemed to me that accusing an established World Class fighter of being in a coulda would shoulda degraded him a bit.

the only thing i agree with about this thread is that cotto and vargas were different fighters before a good beating/loss. however, vargas kept his warrior/fury side and cotto somewhat lost his aggressive spunk.

edit: not saying cotto lost his warrior mentality, but he isn't too much of an aggressor/does not retaliate or light up any combinations after being tagged. mosley-cotto you can see if cotto gets tagged by 1-2 punches, he has to retaliate. now? it seems he'd rather land when he wants, and if he gets hit.. he gets hit. idk if that's from experience or what, but it's the different i've noticed.

To me if Cotto gets ko'd by the smaller pac then he is in the vargas status. He will probably be smarter than vargas and retire rather than going up in weight and embarrassing himself ala Vargas.

I hear ya....I hear ya...I guess I could see that...but there is no disrespect to either one of these Kats....but you gotta admit there are quite a few similarities with these two...and if Cotto loses big then you gotta say they are kinda the same...

Nah, Cotto quitting in the Margarito fight saved him. If he got up to try and withstand even more punishment like Vargas did, he probably would have had that layer of toughness just beat off him. But he quit at the moment he was officially done and probably saved his career.
